2013 Nats- info & suggestions.

Hi All,
Been a nervous wait, but Townsville has been confirmed as the 2013 Nationals venue. Just thought I'd put out some info about the centre and some of our plans for the event. TBA will no doubt be releasing the event schedule and information on the Masters and other events in due course.
The basics - Kirwan has 24 lanes of HPL overlays with wood approaches. Conditioning is with a Kustodian Plus, with Kegel cleaning products and conditioner. Townsville might be a long way from most places, but we have a busy airport with flights being reasonably priced, especially if you can book early. Any extra costs in flights will I'm sure be offset by the cost of accomodation, which is cheaper than the capital cities, and much lower travel times - the bowl is 15 minutes or less from pretty much anywhere in the city.
The Bowl food is very good and good value. Geoff Ott runs the Cafe and he is an awesome chef. Practise rates are $4 per game, 3/$10 or $3/game for 5 or more, for all TBA members. We will be using two squash courts for the ball paddocks, so there will be plenty of room for gear. There will also be a dedicated area for ball maintenance with a spinner/s available for casual use and (by then) a deoiling oven. The Bowl will be a wifi hotspot for the duration of Nats with free internet access for all competitors and officials.
We are planning to live stream the entire Nationals, with one camera every 4 lanes (so be on good behaviour lol). We are also going to be running several mini-events after the squads at night, depending on sponsors, with different formats - hopefully these will be popular and help put a few $$$ back into some pockets.
If the interest is there, we would like to host some information sessions/seminars on subjects like reading lane transitions, equipment selection and layouts, ball drilling and maintenance, etc.
I'm sure I have left a lot out, and I would like to invite suggestions from everyone here on what you would like to see at Nationals. Please try to be constructive (or at least humorous) - we want to make this a great experience for everyone attending.

Cheers, Robbie.

Congrats Robbie on securing the nationals this year..

Show bags are always fun with flyers and such for the local attractions & businesses, and a lollipop or two :)

Having lived in Townsville for a few years during the 90's I can say that it is a place well worth visiting. Navigating the town is easy and everything is readily accessible. I went back a few years ago only to find that not only had it changed but it had gotten better... If only I could convince work to pack up shop and move there. Heaps to do and reasonably priced as well...

Oh, they also have a tourny on at the right time of year ( It's a pity it clashes with WSOB )... Lovely weather before it really starts to warm up...

Congrats on getting the Nationals back Robbie.

I really did enjoy bowling up there in 2003. It's nice to bowl in a centre that's run by BOWLERS. It makes a world of difference

Great post, Robbie. Townsville will be a great venue and you will certainly be looked after well .... good also to see some lateral thinking associated with the Nats. to fill in bowlers 'spare' time even though it may cut into the XXXX time. ENJOY !

Congratulations to the entire Buckley family on securing the TBA nationals. I just know you'll all do a great job, and from the perspective of the bowlers, this will be the BEST Nationals ever! Just wish I could be there with you.

ATBSO went to Townsville last year, and they really looked after the bowlers. Congrats on securing the Nationals. Any info available to accommodation? We got stung last year and paid a fortune !! Group bookings with Virgin were a real plus, 40kls eacg free luggage allowance. You pay $50 now, and the balance shortly before you go, only need 10 travellers for a group booking. Its the way to go. Roll on Townsville.

Good one, Tintam - nice to see the WA's supporting ... you guys have a tough time being soooo far away so perhaps it is time to migrate to the East !

Bec plenty of rooms along the water, of cause the further back you go the cheaper it is thats the place to stay book early pubs, casino, motels, restaurants, gelato bars seafood ,greek, italian, japanese, great place to visit and the bowling centre is well run too

Great post my friend! Townsville was great in 2003 and 10 yrs on I know TBA, you and your staff will put on another great show. Looking forward to the Chef's special in the cafe. Looking forward to catch up with the Townsville crew.

Hey Christian it will be great to catch up with you, and hopefully Lloydy will come up as well so we can get Big Steve and Little Webber in the same room again :)

Just a question for you guys who are in Townsville... What happened to the bowling lanes at Mt Louisa? Off topic I know, I'm just curious.
