On the news tonight, it was announced that Shane Warne will retire at the end of the next test match. I don’t know about any one else, but it will be a sad day for me, as I love to watch Shane play for Australia, it wont be the same without him. The hole he will leave will be irreplaceable. Say it isn’t so.:( :( :( :(

he cant go he needs to get as far ahead of the Chucka from Sri Lanka as he can. It would be a sad day for world cricket if the chucka held the record over warne.

Be a very sad day when he does chuck it in. Once in a lifetime bowler to watch and one of my favourite cricketers of all time.
He always said if he started missing his children too much that he'd give it away, and I've noticed in recent times he's been reiterating in press statements and interviews the word 'Retirement' and 'coming towards the end of my career' with a lot less subtlety than usual.

His replacement will more than likely be Stuart MacGill, who is a very good bowler (bloody expensive) in his own right, pity he's such a c**t of a bloke from all reports and unpopular with fans and team-mates.

it will definately be a sad day when warnie retires.

i believe its gonna be after the 5th test.. after we WIN 5-ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip :D

go aussies! do it for warnie... and the other blokes like mcgrath and hayden that i rekn might retire after the ashes too!!!!

Don't believe everything you hear Tiger.. I sat next to him on the way to Canberra a couple of years ago via Sydney and he's really not a bad bloke.

It's a shame some of the cricket administrators aren't so nice.

Glenn McGrath will announce his retirement from all forms of cricket next week, according to his home-town newspaper the Sydney Morning Herald. The paper said it had confirmed that McGrath would not continue his one-day career so he could play at the World Cup and the Sydney Test against England would be his final match.

If the report is correct, McGrath will not take part in the limited-overs tri-series with the Australia team starting in January. The paper said his wife Jane's ongoing battle with cancer was a reason behind McGrath's decision.

Initially some news sources had speculated that McGrath may extend his career long enough to defend Australia's World Cup title in the West Indies starting in March. The Sydney Morning Herald claimed that speculation selectors had told McGrath he was an unlikely starter for the squad, was wrong.

McGrath, who sits behind only Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan in the list of all-time Test wicket-takers, made a strong return for the current Ashes series after nearly a year out of the game to care for his wife. He has claimed 13 dismissals in the series so far, including 6 for 50 in the first innings at Brisbane. McGrath is also Australia's leading wicket-taker in one-day internationals.

Could be a MARSH/LILLIE AND CHAPPEL repeat!!!!!
