Country championships have been the long weekend in June and the two weekends before the long weekend for at least the last 25 years.
If they clash with other events it is because other events have chosen to use the same weekend.
If the other event is more important or more relevant or more enjoyable then you should bowl in the other event instead.
If you keep an event on the same dates for 25+ years people complain, i bet if you moved the event people would complain ....

That may be one of the reasons as to why this event is dying.

It is fact that there are many events on the same time, so you are right, people have now a choice, and are staying away.

no farqy, the date has nothing to do with it dying, its cause the king wins all the time :D

there are reasons, but i refuse to tarnish greg and simons attempts to get this happening successfully and wish them well

3 of the first 4 comments after Greg's original post were negative comments about clashes with other events. I thought they were pretty pointless posts because the championships have been the same dates for over 25 years so it was not like it was a big surprise when the dates were posted.

In your case farky, venutos cup and ray taylor classic have obviously been shifted because the country champs were in Geelong last year on the June long weekend.

Melbourne tenpin cup has also been long weekend in June for many years so why is the clash of events a problem all of a sudden.

Not trying to defend Country Champs and not going to argue whether or not they are dying, just a bit confused why people are getting all messed up over date clashes.

wasnt intending it to be a negative comment. was just stating that its a shame that clashes still happen when tournaments are advertised well ahead of time on forums like this.
i understand about not wanting to change the date, but think everything possible should be done to get more bowlers in this event. i stand by tradition as much as anyone, but would rather see it moved if its gonna be more succesful, then to see it die a slow death with less and less bowlers playing each year

The only reason i bought it up is because there arent a heap of events in Victoria as it is and i thought it would be good if somehow we could spread them evenly to increase numbers. I dont really care cos i know why i am bowling. Wouldnt it be good though to have the best of the best be able to turn up at both or all tournaments. Melbourne Cup is a nationwide event where as vic country champs is only for vic country. Times are changing and i think its time we move with the times. I dont want to keep arguing the point its just my two bobs worth.

I supppose that most of the reason for the clashes is that it is a long weekend and everyone wants to make use of the extra day. (yeah i know - that is stating the bleeding obvious)

Given that people prepared to comment must have passion for the sport otherwise they wouldn't bother.

How about you put your heads together (so to speak) and look at the vic tournament calendar and try to find a suitable weekend to hold the country champs.

I was at the VCTBA AGM last year and it was proposed moving the tournament and the fact that the event needs a breath of fresh air, did get a mention. But finding a suitable weekend or multiple weekends if there is no 'long weekend' is one of the main reasons why it was kept in June.

I understand what Gary is saying, somehow even when unintended we come across negative, must be the glass hald empty approach. We all have our own priorities. Mine is to bowl Country Champs, and I would never judge anyone who chooses another option.

And if you want to kick Kev's toosh then you better show up, cos I heard there are a few people sick of him winning!! :p

Do i have to come and show you how to kick the OLD GUYS ASS????
Love ya Kevvy.
