Why would you think God exists?

It doesn't seem to matter how you live your life, so why would you believe in the existance of a God (or thousands)

This is one of the very rare times that I agree with one of your posts!

It seems to me, that people tend to look to "God" for continuity of existence. "Heaven" and an afterlife seem to be important to most cultures.

And I suspect you'll find that bad things do happen to bad people, and good things do happen to good people sometimes too...

Having a belief in God is not a problem. I have never had a problem with anyone simply for thier beliefs. As that, I believe, would be discrimination. However, the problem lies with people who are uncapable of accpeting other peoples belief when they aren't the same as the ones they possess.
Obviously I'm not stating a secret fact, just stating the damned obvious.
Believing in God is perfectably acceptable if that makes you feel that you can lead a better life. As does having a belief in no God, assuming once again, that you feel this allows you to live a better life. Some people like to have that all powerful person watching them to keep them from doing the wrong thing. For others, the Laws set down by the Government and Police force are enough of a guideline.
Also, not believing in the God that we are told about doesn't mean one doesn't believe that there is a 'God' of some sort.
You may have opened up an interesting subject here, Wayne.
Later Da Cowman!

P.S. If this is a subject that interests you I highly recommend the book by Richard Dawkins called 'The God Delusion' regardless of your beliefs, or lack thereof.

people have to explain their existence. Without a proven reason, they make up their own ....

my 2c worth.

Haven't you heard? God works in mysterious ways

Better yet, the Hitchhikers Guid to the Galaxy (the book, or even the old BBC series) explains the (non)existence of god quite logically. :p

Actually that was the answer to the question about life, the universe, and everything as I recall...

Of course, we don't happen to have any Babel fish around to fit the proof, but I'm sure there's something that would substitute.

Funny you mention the Hitchhikers Jefferson, It's what I'm reading now. The Trilogy of four I believe...
I'm looking forward to having it all revealed, quite logically.

There was also a 5th. Allen was writing it before he died, and they published it incomplete. Apparently it isn't worth reading.

ah yes.. the existance or not of god. the question of the ages. i am much happier proving to christians that their version of a supreme being, morgan freeman lookalike or not, is actually evil. lets go through this step by step. all of mankind and his angels were created in his image. (and no i'm not going to talk about hitler, stalin, or steven speilberg (the 3rd antichrist)) and as well, god knows our entire life and achievements before he creates us. are you with me so far. right, now when he made the arch angel lucifer, who was remember made in gods own image, he also knew what lucifer would become. so it should have been to nobody's surprise when a chesterfield couch floated across a field, what, sorry got myself off track there.... anywho, nobodys surprise when god cast lucifer out of heaven and made a evil sub-branch of heaven that we call hell. note: various sub branches of this sub branch can be found at the ATO, the reserve bank, and various suburban shopping centres, what you think that music they play isn't some sort of sick twisted torture.. why do you think so many people go berserk, produce automatic weapons and attempt to prove to non-believers that god does exist and if they like i'll introduce you to him as soon as the SWAT team gets here.
Have a nice day.....:D

proof, schmoof. who needs proof to back up an argument?? its never happened on this site before so why would you expect it to start now? lmfao. but seriously all of the stuff i had in my post, well except for the bits about couch's, shopping centres etc which was just randomness, is in the bible, which i have read (had a spare 10 minutes, old testament dragged a bit) :D . but i never implied that i actually believed that god exists, cos we all know that the great lord BUDDHA is the only supreme being worth worrying about.
p.s. you really need to read "small gods" by terry pratchett. absolute pisser.

I'll have to tell the guys I worked with at Tax that they're in the bible! Don't suppose you can be a bit more specific, it's a big book you know... :p

well jeff, been a while since ive read the bible, but pretty sure that the expulsion of lucifer is either in genesis or the book after. could be wrong tho'. happened once before, lol. and from memory jesus expels the loan sharks, tax agents and false prophets from the temples in deuterotomy (once again could be wrong but...) i am happy to stand corrected if that is the case.
gotta love religion, killed more people than any other cause combined:D
