Defending Champion, Jason Belmonte from Orange NSW, is on track for a back-to-back win at the 2006 Brunswick Perth Tenpin Cup, underway at Fairlanes City Bowl in East Perth. The 22 year-old has blazed a successful trail through tournaments in the Middle East and Europe in recent weeks and currently leads the sport's prestigious European Men's Rankings.

After 16 games Belmonte is 586 over the card with a 236.6 average, establishing a decisive lead with three final games of 268, 255 and 258.

In second place, NSW Central Coast bowler Jarrod Lean is 118 pins behind, with Victoria’s Paul Trotter in third place trailing by a further 76 pins.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the Perth Tenpin Cup has attracted entrants from all around Australia, including Belmonte and several other bowlers recently named to represent Australia at the forthcoming World Youth and World Men’s Championships in Germany and Korea.

High profile West Australian and star of the Women’s Professional Bowling Tour, Carol Gianotti has made the cut in 10th place, along with 1998 Commonwealth Games medallist, Michael Muir from Perth. The pair is amongst eight Western Australian bowlers that will advance to todays final matchplay round.

Following the cut to the Top 16, pinfall is carried forward, using the bonus pin system (30 pins for a win, 15 pins for a draw) to decide the 2006 Brunswick Perth Tenpin Cup Champion.
