First 2 hander to bowl a 900 series

Only 1 question, have you guys bowled a 900 series. No matter how it is done it is an awesome effort, we are not all perfect at the line but we don't all bowl 900 series scores. Well done Jimmy I say!

I knew when opening this thread there would be some negative comments but all ive got to say is well done to this Jimmy bloke. Sure no doubt on a house pattern but he threw 36 in a row in what looked like a 5 man (atleast 4) league so im sure he had to make some adjustments not to mention having to maintain his shot for prbably over 2.5 hours to get through 3 league games. No cheap shots from me, well done i say.

To the critics on this forum I have seen each and every one of you bowl and guess what...you are not perfect either!

My 2 bobs worth and good for him!

Firstly I doubt you've ever seen me bowl - I've probably bowled about 50-60 balls in the past 25 years - and almost all of those were a single shot at a new bowling centre somewhere in the world when I was part of the Opening Ceremony party. Beyond that I bowled about half a game at the opening of the Strike centre at Darling Harbour - and unless you are a wine waiter, I am guessing you weren't there.

Now here's the point. This has nothing to do with Jimmy - this has to do simply with drawing a line between the 900 series he bowled [as just one example of many instances that have impacted negatively on bowling's sporting credibility in recent times]. Try to ascertain a correlation between Jimmy's 900 and these points.

As little as 20 years ago the ABC [that was Mens Bowling Association in the US] was the largest membership organisation of ANY sport in the world. The combined US membership of all 3 entites - men, women and youth - is now less than half of what the ABC was as a single entity at that time.

League bowling numbers have plummeted - world wide.

Tournament entry numbers have plummeted - world wide

The PBA was once a staple diet of afternoon weekend television on a major FTA network in the US for over 30 years..it is now seen, in patches, on ESPN 2

Bowlling tried in vain for over a decade to register some sort of IOC acceptance - certainly bowlings lack of credibility was not the only reason it failed - but it WAS a significant negative in the overall.

I could go on - but I think you get the point.

Well maybe you do - if you don't then that's too bad.

These facts are undeniable.....is it Jimmy's fault and do I not say good luck to him - of course not, and of course there are other issues that have impacted on these realities - but 900's don't help the sports credibility cause one single ounce!

THAT is the point!

At the end of the day, Jimmy is just doing what we can with the gear that's on offer and the lane conditions that are on offer.

I completely agree with Steve though, as usual.

15 or so years ago when I was starting and bowled in a centre that had a "fair condition", a 300 was bowled every 4 or so years. When I bowled my first 200 and after lots of hardwork in a centre where the best bowlers I had seen averaged 188 or so.

Many years later I threw my first 300 in the same centre, being the biggest achievement of my life. For me, having 900's bowled, just makes me think I really wasn't even that good to bowl a 300. If a 17 year old can bowl 3 in a row, is it really an achievement?

It's not the kids fault, he is just doing what he can on what he is given.

Ever bowled on a THS in the States Roysa?

I went to the States for 9 months. In the first month, I broke my highest series by almost 100 pins. My average was 25 or so pins higher while I was there.

I bowled more high games in 9 months than I had in 5 years.

Nup never.

Interesting story Toon

Was just pleased I spared them all. I haven't been recently.

I saw a write up on this guy, and thy reckon he bowls upwards of 100 games per week! Owls a couple f leaguesvnd ub's in other leagues the rest of the time... Yet, I also saw a thread on FB, where Mike Devney mentioned that he runs some amature sport shot tournaments, around the area that this kid bowls, and Mike reckons this kid turns up to most of those tournaments, yet, regularly bowls no better than -200!! The lanes a seriously walled up over there for the every day leagues....

I'll retract what I said about a 900 being kicked...

I'll wait till someone rolls a 900 off a ramp instead

Unfortunately over the last few years on TB it has become more popular to focus on the negative aspect of peoples acheivments. Is it any wonder bowling is in the toilet.

I don't see anything positive about 2 x 900 series within a week...
