Rachuig 2007

How come your so lucky to get so much attention!!!

No - body rings me. I am sitting here all alone with my friends in sydney at my hotel, celebrating my birthday by myself and heres you getting lots of calls or emails.

Please don't be shy I would love to discuss my thoughts on Rachuig to the TBA or anyone........

cheers

Tony

Well here's my 2 cents worth,

As i have previously bowled rachuig a few times and have enjoyed the Team spirit, mateship and entire competition, it leaves you wanting to come back and strive for more.

Over the last couple of years my enthusiasm towards bowling rachuig have changed.

Instead, you now have people telling you to be here, there and everywhere else at certin times of the day, personally i dont like being told where to be if i think that i don't need to be involved. (Training days, psychologists etc......)

Has anyone lately asked bowlers what they would like to do in the lead up to nationals.

Maybe if the Committee started asking the bowlers how they would like the up coming months to the nationals be planned this may entice some of us older bowlers back into the state team.

I'm not going to buy into the argument of what is right v's wrong or what should or shouldn't happen.

All I will say is that through many years experience there is one huge and major hurdle that will always be very difficult to get over and that is - 14 bowlers make up the team. I see all of your individual posts saying "Ask the bowlers etc etc" which I will add I am not "Anti" that, what concerns me though is that those at Tenpin SA will still cop the flack because they may just choose to adopt a suggestion from some that is not liked by others.

What I mean by that is you will most likely get 14 various opinions, needs, wants and desires. Sure some of these opinions may be similar in a lot of ways but the point I'm trying to make is what you do to please some won't please others and therefore no matter what is done to "improve" Rachuig this particular topic will always be a highlight of the forum each year after Rachuig is done, it just might be a different group each year having the debate. And it will be the group who in that particular year didn't like what goes on, or what they "think" goes on.

For those who haven't been a part of Rachuig in recent years I can only suggest that rather than "Slag" it off based upon hearsay why not give it a go and see for yourself, that way any comments you then want to make in the future are at least based upon your own experiences. You may just be surprised at what you see actually happens behind those doors of the Rachuig team.

I did hear a few things about this trip, yes this is my part to comment on "Hearsay". What I heard though tends to contradict a few of the posts here such as: some team members being dropped off to play Golf, Shopping trips, Casino trips, Beers after Rachuig socialising with other teams etc, I'm sure there were other "fun" things as well. Hearing from more than a few of the team members how they enjoyed the trip, and then reading this forum I am a bit confused and wondering if everyone really was at the same place and on the same trip????

So again I go back to my original point behind the reason I thought I would post this. There is more than one or two people to please and by making decisions it's human nature that you are bound to please some and maybe not others, in a group situation it would be a miracle for 100% of people to be 100% happy 100% of the time.

Hey Paul how‘s things mate…Tell me back when you did bowl did they make you sign a South Australian TBA code of conduct?
Looks like that’s what happening to the Team down there at the moment and then are threatened if you POST ON TOTALBOWLING about the week away…
I could understand if there were names mentioned but to threaten someone and tell them they are about to be bought in to a meeting with the Executive of Tenpin SA for what they have posted so far is quiet disgusting in my view…Any wonder they don’t get a full quota rolling off the next year…

It’s no secret that I don’t always agree with Strop or Chin for that matter have support SATBA in the past in most threads but in this case I think SATBA really have it wrong…There is nothing wrong with freedom of speech if used correctly…I cannot see how this has been done in this thread…All I see is a few people upset because a few views don’t agree with them regarding how the week went, and others reporting this thread to me because it’s not positive feedback…

All feedback whether it be positive or negative can be used to better the sport…My advice is LISTEN TO WHAT THE BOWLERS WANT…They are the ones PAYING THE MONEY not SATBA…
Happiness helps breed success…

im sorry but as a bystander just reading , looks like only 1 person complained.as she was not at the previous Rachuig trips her comments can be ignored as it is only hearsay
nothing ever changes in this forum more negative stuf than positive it will lead to keep every1 away from the sport and then it will die a natural death
then every1 will b happy

Maybe you’re right but I believe your wrong…If this site was to shut down tomorrow you would be surprised of the outcome…

1 person only complained because you have the rest of the Team **** scared of speaking out and threatened NEVER TO BOWL RACHUIG AGAIN because of this form…

Does anyone have one of these forms as I would be keen to see a copy of it…

You have posted twice on this site since joining and not one of them was positive…Rather than people logging on and reading the site and bag it, maybe they could start to contributed to discussions where people can read them… rather than behind people’s backs in phone calls and emails… then people wouldn’t be pulled across the hot coals for speaking their minds and for others…

By the sounds of it so much could be learnt by the bowlers and the admin staff if they chose to listen to the people who matter…
I am not saying that either party is correct just use the thread to work things out rather than ban someone who has chosen to speak up…

Amen to that Jase!!!!

Also, zulu i dont suppose you would be releated to one of the captains in any way would you? Its interesting how you dont put a name to your post. I understand its only natural instinct to protect the ones you love, even though nothing has been said about them or anyone for that matter!!

If my comments can be ignored, then i ask you why is everyone getting their knickers in a knot over them??.... obviously it hits home otherwise people wouldn't get so defensive.

People dont see the messages i am getting sent privately except maybe Jase which is why he is able to comment... if he has read my emails, without me changing them purely the wording which has been sent to me and perhaps feels the same way i do... the bells have to ring upstairs at some point people... i'm not making anything up... why am i being hushed for my comments.. because they dont want anyone to know??......HELLO!!!!, but its just fuel to my fire and until i have met with whom ever i am to meet with, i will contnue to comment as long as i have an opinion. Ignore them if you will but i bet you will continue to read!!!

Well, here we go again....surely this problem we have in SA can be sorted out
By the sounds of it so much could be learnt by the bowlers and the admin staff if they chose to listen to the people who matter…
Jase....could not have said it better but unfortunately as stated in previous posts.....the attitude has been from the board "my way or the highway"
Surely if there is so much "hearsay" year after year some of it has to be true, as I have not been there since 2002 I am unable to verify any of the talk.
Danielle must be admired for coming out on an open forum and stating the facts as she saw them. For a number of years people going away as part of the team have said things prior to going away as well as when they return only to be pulled in front of a committee and told to "shut up or else".
Like chook said how are things to change for the good if current problems cannot be confronted by everyone, if the problems cannot be solved in house or by the board the only way is to involve everyone who may be thinking of trying for future teams.
Brenton stated.........."get with the times" in reference to Strops comments.
As this new age stuff has been tried for a number of years now with no success maybe its time to go back and look at what we did in "the old days"
I can only speak from the times I made the team & as much as I try to am unable to remember having the problems & grievances you guys seem to have these days.
No team is going to have everything rosey all the time, as my time as captain we had a few things pop up but people seemed to have the confidence to come to me or the manager to sort out, these days if anything is said they just seem to chastised
Come on everyone....board & bowlers....its about time all got together and sort this CRAP out.
Cheers
Colin

Chook,

Less of the old you pup.......prefer experienced
Do me a favour......should they pull before a committee, do not let them shut you up, if you beleive in what you are saying, say it & say it loud....eventually something positive will be done about it for the good of all future bowlers.

Cheers
Your "OLD" friend

I agree with you Colin all the way. Danielle you have my full support as well. It's about time to say enough is enough.

Although I have never made a Rachuig team the only 1 time I tried out - I could feel the tenison in meeting room before hand - it gave me no desire to try that day or even try again.

To Colin, Paul and Tony,

I was not going to post further, but curiousity got the better of me.

I know your opinions on training, sports psychs etc. and I have only one question. Why is it that you believe that you do not need to train in preparation for Rachuig as a team? Every other representative team (amateur and professional) trains as a team, so why is it you believe that you do not need to? Surely as a team member, everyone should have to put in the same amount of work. To not enforce such a rule would amount to favouritism.

The results of our Rachuig teams over the past few years have been disappointing, however why should not bowling move with the times, as just about every other sport is.

Brenton,

I have never said I do not agree with training
Training can be beneficial....agreed....but to the degree i believe the team has been required to do over the past few years is not warranted (in my opinion)....I would like to think that a comprimised can be made between team members......as it was in the "old days" so to speak.
As for the psychology side of it, once again i have never said I disagree with it...............as a matter of fact i believe this is probably one of the most important things to investigate once you reach a certain level but on a personal level..........believe it or not I did a lot of sports psychology on my own & tribute a lot of my success in the past to this.
I agree, bowling should move with the times.........this is happening with the technology of balls, lanes, oil etc........but sholud we just forget the not so old ways of doing things, maybe combine the two & come up with a solution

Cheers
Colin
By the way..........congrats on your performance this year

Thanks for that Colin, it is a nice way to go out. Thankyou for a well thought out rational reply too. Unfortunately there seems to be too little of that too often in posts of this nature where self-opinion and emotion overun rational discussion.

ok this is what u want no rules no couches no managers every bowlers fend for them selve , it looks like there was only one person complaining anyway, and as in prevous yrs she was not there so what she heard was hearsay , lol gossip . nothing changed in this forum the same ppl complaining the same old stories.

Hooray, Bradley is making a comeback!
Its so good to see that nothing has changed since I put the gear away in march of last year. Just a few things...firstly, Danielle, great to see you stand up for yourself and actually get things out there because speaking your mind in this state has always been a dirty issue with many people, I believe 2 years ago I protested and ordered a re-oil at SA Youth and the **** I copped from that, well what can I say.

Now I know many of you out there are screaming at me saying I have no right to say anything in this well...too bad, cos I am. As a board member for the short period of under a year, I was enlightened to the enthralling politics that wen't on and the puppetry that was being displayed. Afterall, I was told by somebody that the board doesn't need deadwood like me...and yes that is a direct quote. Its high time that people got out of the 'old firm' way of thinking and started bringing in some fresh meat (to be honest I don't really care as I don't bowl anymore but in all honesty, I still do wanna see some of my friends who are still bowlers be able to succeed and be backed up by this state.

Now, I bet you are all asking, what experience apart from shield do you have Bradley? well how about I enlighten you all. October 6th to 13th was the Indoor Netball Australia Open Nationals (thats right, I am a netballer now) and I went away as the Open Ladies Manager. Firstly being a manager is difficult, very difficult as trying to co-ordinate 11 women is not the easiest thing to do...with varying tastes in food etc it was hard to co-ordinate. When It came to warming down after playing 3-5 games of netball a day we did pool work...but you had the option...stand there at waist deep, or walk around with the group. You were able to do whatever was comfortbale. Of an evening, enjoy yourselves, have some drinks, don't go overboard. We went out a couple of nights but it wasnt late, our rule was as long as each and every girl was ready to go on court for the first game of the day. Grow up people...not everyone is going to be happy with what happens, but at the same time, some co-operation is required....START FINDING THE HAPPY MEDIUM!

Oh Its good to be back

Brenton,

From what I was told at rachuig... NSW only met once at State Champs before they met at rachuig.... Like i said i was only told, so i dont fully know (pls dont take this as being bit**y, just thought i would mention that)
