Why is the K&K Classic so popular?

Hypercell = Hyperhook!
Recipe for a good tournament

1. Organisation - This tournament is planned 12 months out from its start date. With heavy promotion through out Brisbane, Queensland and Australia everyone knows when this event is on. Entry forms are out early, squad listings are updated regulary.

2. Prizemoney - With the huge support of the generous Spicer Family and K&K Cleaning the money involved is fantastic. Worthwhile for interstaters making the trip and super attractive for local bowlers to have that yearly crack against Australia's best.

3. Format - Simple yet different with the tri-matchplay system it certainly makes things interesting for a spectator. With the bonus system playing a huge part, bowlers need to bowl at their best all the time.

4. Hospitality - Something that is a miss with most tournaments in Australia. Tournament organisers getting together ensuring people can catch lifts to and from the airport. A heap of locals offering their spare rooms, lounges and floors for interstate guests. Why doesnt this happen more?

5. Location - Kedron is approx 30 mins from the airport. This actually plays a huge part for interstaters looking at making the trip. Plenty of cheap accomodation and activities for people to keep entertained during the stay. Selecting a centre which is centrally located is a huge draw card in luring travellers.

6. Weather - not really that important but who doesnt love Queensland weather?

Anyway, its great to see the tournament with huge numbers. I have no doubt with its popularity it will be a tournament that will be around for years to come. Again, thank you to the Spicer family who really makes this event what it is.

See you all in sunny QLD in May :)

George,

You failed to mention the theme parks, especially that new one you have up there at the moment - Australian Outback spectactular.

Sponsorship, sponsorship and more sponsorship!!!! With the combination this year of Clean up with K & K and AMF, the already huge sponsorship $$$ from past years is increased and the Entry Fee has been kept at an affordable level - bowlers want value for money - George has it right!
The only downfall is that Qld. Sth. has lost a ranked tournament for the men with the tournament being combined with the Qld. Cup....Nth. Qld. has the momentum to get 4 tournaments that are ranked within a very reasonable travelling distance - Sth. Qld. men need to get their b..ts into gear to rectify this situation as the proof is there that the bowlers will support a well priced event if some money can be found to do so - almost impossible to match the $$$ from the Spicers (many, many thanks to them!)
Back in the 'good old days', Ken Sheehan had a theory that most bowlers just want to compete - give them a reasonable number of games, reasonable entry fee and a reasonable Prize Fund.

I don't think much has changed in that theory Mary, except that there are less bowlers now from which to pool entries!

The K & K Classic is sucessful for many reasons, including those mentioned such as entry fee (very very reasonable), prizefund, format, number of games, competition standard, double rankings points this year, the list goes on.

But probably the most important thing is how well this tournament is organised, and George has already touched on this. People know when it's on a long time in advance, can plan their arrangements early and get the cheapest flights possible, when they want them, and also just purely the effort that goes into preparing the tournament so that everything runs almost-perfectly. There is nothing more frustrating than inefficiency at a tournament (and I have to say that happens rarely, most are very professional).

Well done to everyone involved with the K&K!

Your on the money there Mary
there always seemed to be quailty tournaments at Clayfield and they were always so much fun to compete in.

I find it sad coming back to bowling after 9 years away that there is no big tournaments at all on the Gold Coast.
