I don't necessarily think that they need to replace Buchanan but he seems to rely too much on graphics and statistics and all this other whiz-bang gadgetry, when what they really need to be doing is working hard on thier ground fielding.
Fielding sets the tone and increases confidence in a side and Australia's was shoddy for the whole tour and has been in decline for quite awhile now.
When Bobby Simpson was coach of the side, he'd have them out them out there working on their fielding till they were almost dropping like flies - that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
To be honest some of these Australian sides in the last 5-10 years could've coached themselves they were that good, but the current side is a) on the decline and b) has a fair lack of experience and c) lacks confidence (Warne & McGrath aside)
I've always said that Warne was the best pick for Captain, but at 36 years old what is the point in doing it now?
That seems to be the problem in this country with this stupid soccer mum mentality of only having nice, clean cut figures as leaders - the types that will come home and have a lamb-roast and play Scattegories with Gran and the kiddies on a Saturday night.
Warne was by far and away the more qualified leader but didn't fit the squeaky-clean mould and thus was passed over for the job which was rediculous.
They'd be better off sticking with Ponting who's only 30 (who I don't regard as a great captain) and grooming future captains underneath him.
Picking Warne now would be just pointless and be a short-term fix to a long-term problem.
As poor as the Aussies were in that whole tour, they only went down 2-1 but had they played to anywhere near their level of ability they would've bitch-slapped the Poms, and more than likely will beat just about every other test playing nation going about currently - there's not much else to beat out there.
England are an excellent side and deserved to win, and Australia will have to rebuild again to come up to standard - losing the likes of Pigeon, Warnie, Gilly etc will test the depth of Australian cricket - and there will be hard times ahead.
