PBA, USBC Announce Two Special Series
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 3/30/2007

The PBA and the USBC announced today two special events which will take place this summer -- a summer series featuring 16 PBA all-stars and a Women’s Tour Trials. The Tour Trials will create a 16-bowler exempt field for a 2007-08 PBA Women’s Series, which will coincide with the 2007-08 Denny’s PBA Tour season.

The 2007 Women’s Tour Trials will coincide with the U.S. Women’s Open presented by the USBC, Aug. 13-18. To be eligible for the 2007-08 PBA Women’s Series, participants will pay an additional $750 entry fee at the U.S. Open. The top 16 finishers will earn exemptions for the 2007-08 PBA Women’s Series, which will feature four events with a total prize fund of $50,000 for each event, including a $10,000 top-prize and last cash of $1,800.

The championship match of all four PBA Women’s Series events will be televised as part of the ESPN telecasts for the four Denny’s PBA Tour events in which women’s events will run concurrently.

The PBA summer series, sponsored by Denny’s, Motel 6, Six Flags and the USBC, will feature 16 PBA all-stars taking part in a doubles event which will air as 15 half-hour shows on ESPN over five consecutive Sundays, beginning June 24. The event will be filmed at Six Flags Theme Park in St. Louis, Mo., June 15-16 and will be staged outdoors on specially-installed lanes.

“Both these events are a direct result of the major organizations within the bowling industry uniting to help promote the sport of bowling,” said PBA Commissioner and CEO Fred Schreyer. “We’re extremely excited to offer our fans competitive bowling on ESPN in the off-season and equally excited to offer women the opportunity to compete on a national stage next season alongside the Denny’s PBA Tour.”

“USBC’s vision is to grow the sport of bowling through greater visibility, and we feel sponsoring both of these events works toward that goal,” USBC CEO Roger Dalkin said. “These events, in addition to the U.S. Women’s Open, will bring more bowling to national television and give the sport even greater exposure to millions of people.”

The final event of the 2006-07 Denny’s PBA Tour season is underway this week with the PBA Tournament of Champions, at Bradley Bowl in Windsor Locks, Conn., and Uncasville, Conn. The live ESPN televised finals take place Sunday, April 1 at 1 p.m. EST.

To me this seems great for bowling as a whole, even though it is in the states, it can only do good as to getting more exposure again for the sport as a world wide entity
