Labour forms minority Government.

All very interesting.
I feel small business' will not benefit this decision.
I would also like to know where the $$$ will come from for the millions of km's of cable for the new broadband scheme will come from??

Rob

No chance of a revote.

@Bowlrig... correct they arent going to run cable out to regional area's... 43billion $ estimate? Rubbish.... its uncosted... it would be close to double that and for what??? Better internet speed? Seriously... if thats our biggest issue we are going great!!

ETS... dont even start me...

One thing is for sure... the independants who support Labor arent goign to enjoy getting back to their hometowns... the constituants there are going to smash them.

As a side note.... State Labor government might as well pack up their desks now.

So much for a democracy... the party that got less votes by a long way is now running the country... if Julia doesnt deliver on everything i believe the australian people will speak again like they did this time but she wont survive...

Ball in your court now Julia.

Going to be interesting with minority government. I hope all those people complaining about labour and how they waste money are going to hand back the stimulus payments. (didn't think so..)

Truth is, no matter who is in power almost half the country complains about them. The vote is usually close enough to 50/50.

Gee whiz, we're doing so badly as a nation. Unemployment down to 5.1% (Records show you just can't get it much below 4%.) We missed the horrors that the US and several European economies are going through (Cheap holiday to Greece, anyone..?) and quite frankly, none of us will be any better or worse off either way. As for the "waste" of building a national broadband network, Australia is fast becoming a third world country in data speeds and the Internet is used for far more useful things than watching YouTube and complaining about the government.

I've met Radiologists who can send images to the screen of a specialist across the country in seconds, my wife can "attend" university lectures on the other side of the world via broadband. But only because we live in a capital city. Maybe this makes me a left-wing radical, but I think regional Australia deserves this opportunity too.

I think minority government will be a very interesting time for democracy, as opposed to toeing party lines.

This will be Great, over 50% of our internet use goes to the USA, so when we have 1tb of speed what happens when it hits the USA?

willey

I'm no expert but if one of the independents who backed labor withdraws their support, there will be another election. Experts are predicting an election within 12 months if the coalition can knock labor of its high horse.

BRING BACK K-RUDD!!

I'm 100% in agreement with Jason Doust's post!
WE need this high speed internet rollout for a multitude of reasons...
look beyond your noses people and you might learn something new.

Realistically, how much of the NBN will be done while Labor is in government. They said it will take 8 years to complete, its unlikely they will still be there in 3 yrs

What are the multitude of reasons?

Now im not saying people in cities are more important than regional Australia... but in some cases we will be running thousands of KM's of cable to places that have populations in the hundreds and in some cases streets that are 15 km's long with 2 houses (farms) on them.

Is there not more important issues the government could spend 43 BILLION (more like 80 Billion) $ on??

Actually im not sure why im arguing this... it wont happen.

No good having high speed internet if your out of work and can't afford to use it ;-)

Without getting too far into network engineering, the NBN is built with fibre. Fibre is the ultimate in scalable data solutions, as you can change the switching at each end and hey presto, it goes much, much faster. And fibre, once in the ground, lives for a very long time.

Nobody's working on a petabit wireless switch. (And the latency would be awful on all those colliding IP packets...) But it already exists for fibre, with milliseconds of latency running on an ATM backbone. Any other transmission proposal is already hard up against the laws of physics and would be ultimately a true waste of money. It's like investing in a really well built car over a throw away cheapie. Cheaper in the long run and much more serviceable.

As for no work Jase, how many jobs will this thing create? ;-) People made the same arguments about the Sydney Harbour Bridge. As for just doubling the costs to shore up an argument Roysa, that's pure speculation. Treasury has already tut-tutted over the alleged savings the Coalition claimed that suddenly vaporised.

Anyway, I'm interested to see what happens when two party politics has a conscience by way of the independents to answer to. It's got the potential to be a fascinating time for democracy.

Cheers,
Jason

Guy goes into a bar, there's a robot bartender.

The robot says, "What will you have?"

The guy says, "Martini."

The robot brings back the best martini ever and says to the man, "What's your IQ?"

The guy says, "168."

The robot then proceeds to talk about physics,

space exploration and medical technology.

The guy leaves, but he is curious...

So he goes back into the bar.
The robot bartender says, "What will you have?"

The guy says, "Martini."

Again, the robot makes a great martini gives it to the man and says,

"What's your IQ?"

The guy says, "100.."

The robot then starts to talk about Nascar, Budweiser and John Deere tractors.

The guy leaves, but finds it very interesting, so he thinks he will try it one more time.
He goes back into the bar.

The robot says, "What will you have?"

The guy says, "Martini," and the robot brings him another great martini.

The robot then says, "What's your IQ?"

The guy says, "Uh, about 50."

The robot leans in real close and says,

"So, are you people still happy you voted for Gillard ?":D

I see It Didnt take Abbott long to go against his signed deal in Parliment
regarding the Speaker of the House

There is no way this minority will work

The Libs are the kings of dirty politics and will do everything
possible to make it not work

See you back at the Polls soon

So many dramas and the first sitting of Parliament hasn't even happened yet!

A minority government cannot successfully govern in it's own right, it is only a matter of time before we're back at the polls. The Governor-General should intervene and dissolve the Lower House in the interests of a stable government.
