The closure of Keon Park is incredibly sad

It is always sad when a bowling centre closes for the last time but it is even harder when it is one with so much history attached to it.
Keon Park has always been a BOWLERS centre. For more than 40 years it has hosted many of Melbourne's strongest leagues and some of Australia's greatest tournaments including multiple Australian Opens. It has also been the spiritual home of the ATBSOV for many years.

Whether you were there when Paul Madden bowled Keon Park's first 300 more than 41 years ago or witnessed bowlers including John Sullivan, Len Hogg and Steve Lovell win Australian Opens inside its 4 walls it will always be remembered by people who know and love our game.

Especially sad for all of the Keon Park league bowlers and the staff who helped make it such a great centre over so many years . Some of those league bowlers have competed there since day 1. Longevity in the game is what makes our game special. These are the people who MAKE our sport special. These are the people who really matter.

Hi Daz,

Yes it was great news that a wonderful centre could be saved. It doesn't happen very often. Bowling centres throughout our history have rarely been given a second shot at life but this was one of those very rare pieces of good news in the socialist state of Victoria where countless businesses have been destroyed over the past 18 months. I hope that Keon Park can live on for another 40 years. Good luck to Warren and his team.
