The Queensland State Championships 2009

The Queensland State Championships for 2009 will be held at SunCity Bowl Caloundra on the 2nd 3rd and 4th May.

In a major departure from previous events which have seen declining entries, TBAQ has totally re-worked the format. Following discussions with bowlers of all grades and abilities it has been decided to scrap individual singles and doubles squads. Instead a semi-tournament structure has been created whereby all entrants will bowl an All Events within the same squad.

Entries will only be accepted as a 4 person Team entry. Everyone in the 4 person Team will bowl 9 games, changing lanes after every game. The Team of 4 will play on a pair of Lanes and will move together to their next Lane.

The first 3 games will comprise the singles for each team member and the next 3 games will be the doubles component. The final 3 games will be the Team games.

It is estimated the total time for each squad will be around 4 hours. Cost will be $85 which will cover the 9 games, the All Events fee, Prize Money and Auto qualifying for the Masters.

The Championships will still be graded although the grades will be changed slightly from the norm. to allow for a better allocation of prize money. Entry forms are being prepared and will be published before the end of this year.

We are hoping this will establish a successful working pattern for the future, it will certainly streamline the event and should help to eliminate the empty lanes that have become so apparent in recent State events. Further details will be released shortly.
