A new qualifying format was introduced for the Kingaroy Cup and proved intresting. Bowlers where asked to show up in 3 different time frames and bowl on the lane conditions at different stages of tournament. With everyone qualifying at different stages the cut was never know until right to the end. And it was close right till the end. Greg Kelly was the cut on 188.6 ave tied with unlucky bowler Rob Kuluci. Greg got through thanks to his higher last game of 197 over Rob’s 195. Only 7 bowlers managed to bowl over the card for qualifying. 1st Brando, 2nd Shayne Melton, 3rd Jason Walsh, 4th Dale Warren, 5th Mark Lawton, 6th Alicia Melton, 7th Brian Pilkington. (after 12 games qualifying)
Matchplay was a split type format where the top 24 bowled 7 games head to head against there group. The lane draw did go a bit funky and soome bowlers may have played the wrong opponents but in the end there where 5 left at the top.
1st Jason Walsh, 2nd Brando, 3rd Alicia Melton, 4th Mark Lawton, 5th Dale Warren.
Dale Warren and Alicia Melton were making their second appearance in a step ladder in as many events, but once again they could go the distance and where defeated in match one by Mark Lawton. Mark then took on Brando in the second match and payed for a slow start with Brando winning comfortably in the end.
The final saw number #1 qualifier Jason Walsh taking on Brando. The game hung in the balance right to the end, but it was Jason who managed to double into the 10th frame to sercure victory.
Special thanks from myself to Stuart Crowley who really got the scoring running of his own back. And also to Kate Wilton and Faye Bottomley who took on the scoring roll in the matchplay. Thank Nathan and Alicia for doing A squad while we bowled.
The next event is the Harbour City Classic at Gladstone on the 19th & 20th of September. Squad lists and the entry form is here on totalbowling.
