Monday, 21 January 2008 - Doha, Qatar:

Overcoming a shaky start in today’s four-game match, Orange bowler Jason Belmonte top-scored going into tomorrow’s series of final matches at the Qatar Bowling Centre in Doha. Posting lines of 181, 254, 199 and 234, Belmonte overtook Singapore’s Remy Ong by a single pin to finish with a 217 average, with Aaron Kong from Malaysia, and popular local contender Mubarak Al-Muraikhi in third and fourth place. Two Swedish bowlers, Peter Ljung and Martin Larsen, Shalin Zulkifli from Malaysia and Qatari Yousek Al-Jaber make up the eight placings to advance to tomorrow’s final.

The eight players who have already qualified for the final three rounds are Ryan Lalisang from Indonesia, Naif Oqab from UAE, Adrian Ang from Malaysia, Choi Bok Eum from Korea, Bandar Al-Shafi from Qatar, Wu Siu Hong from Hong Kong and two English bowlers, Dom Barrett and Kirsten Penny.

Surprise casualties in today’s rounds included Finland’s Osku Palermaa and Tim Mack from the USA while Australia’s Andrew Frawley missed the cut by just six pins. "I don’t practice enough…that’s it!, he said simply, and echoed Belmonte’s description of the condition as ‘tough’. "But, if you’re going to win US$50,000, you want to work hard for it," he added smiling.

Tomorrow’s series of three final matches will commence at 1pm local time with the highest seeded player meeting the lower seed in all matches. All matches will be played over two games, from scratch.
