Friday afternoon session
THERE was a massive shock on the opening day of the 11th annual PartyCasino.com World Tenpin Masters.

The event at the Barnsley Metrodome features a total of 16 of the finest bowlers from around the world, all vying for the top prize of $30,000.

Defending champion Jason Belmonte has been knocked out of the competition as he suffered a surprising 406-469 defeat against English qualifier James Tidd.

"This is the highest point of my career, it can't get any higher than this," said a delighted Tidd.

"In my eyes this was the best draw I could've had as I had nothing to lose but I knew, on my day, I could give as good as anyone.

"I'm not big headed and I was nervous but when I got down the lane I was quite confident that I could take him out. He looked frustrated in the warm-up and luckily I held my nerve. If I was honest, I didn't think I would get into the second round."

People have unrealistic expectations of Jason.

Yep, he's a great shooter, but everyone has those days where your look on the lane sucks, and in a knockout format, that often means you're toast as the whole tournament is a stepladder final!

Commiserations Jason.

I do not know anyone who could live out of a suit case even when it lands in another country and can still perform the way Jason performs. He is in my mind and plenty of other people's minds a genuine professional and has a fantastic attitude towards life and the sport we all know so well. Great work Jason. Keep it up!
