International bowlers have a chance to join the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour for its history making, 64-bowler 2004-05 season by signing up for the inaugural PBA Tour Trials. The event will take place June 1-6 at Stardust Bowl II in Merrillville, Ind., with the top eight receiving spots for next season's exempt Tour.

The PBA has reserved 10 spots (first come, first served) in the PBA Tour Trials field for international players. These players are not required to be members of the PBA, and are not required to participate in any PBA events (PBA Tour, PBA Senior Tour, PBA Regional Tour) prior to the Tour Trials.

The five day competition will be comprised of a daily tournament with two squads each bowling nine games. Each day's competition will feature entrants bowling on a different PBA Tour lane condition.

After the final day of competition the top eight bowlers with the highest cumulative pinfall will receive a season-long exemption and guaranteed earnings of not less than $32,000.

"This event is going to be filled with a lot of nerves and emotions," said PBA Commissioner Fred Schreyer. "PBA Tour Trials will become the place where bowlers can begin to realize their dreams and aspirations."

The criteria to enter in 2005 will change dramatically. PBA Tour Trials will become invitation only, determined by: 2004-05 PBA Tour members who did not retain exempt status; the top point leaders in each region; the top point leaders from the PBA Senior Tour; and a limited number of international bowlers and commissioner's exemptions. In 2005, the number of exemptions available will increase from eight to eleven.

The entry fee will be $1,500 and a prize fund based on entries will be paid following each day of competition.

Bowlers who miss gaining exemption at PBA Tour Trials will still have an opportunity to compete in PBA Tour events. Each week a qualifier will be open only to PBA members to determine four spots into that week's bracket.

The 2004-05 PBA Tour season will feature an all-exempt 64-bowler field for the first time in PBA history. The eight bowlers to gain spot through PBA Tour Trials will join the 50 bowlers who received exemptions during the 2003-04 season. Six spots will be filled weekly - one Commissioner's exemption, along with four pros and an amateur
