hrmm so are you saying that the gurls in our state team for sq and any otehr state have no talent or ability to make the team and lucked there way in over a number of games they bowled?

I get the opinion that he meant the girls as a whole, not so much that their is a total lack of tallent, but it is rather top heavy.

People People People

Hey all,
I must say, this is a rather interesting topic, nonetheless. But to put it simply, UPYOURS has a valid opinion, whether he is right or WRONG. We all ahve our opinions too. I am going to stick to my side and say it is WRONG to accuse so much talent you haven't seen based on prior tournaments with the knowledge you have. If your going to go ahead nad pass judgement on youth bowlers, have the right knowledge at your side so none of this sparks an argument like so... How bout this, another topic and lets stop this one here. Pizayce people.

ok, well,

i'm a junior bowler in australia, and i would like to say this: not everyone starts good when they are young? i mean, what do you think of cara honeychurch? she is one of the best in the world, and do you know what? she wasn't really any good until she was around 18.
just because of the results someone is bringing in aren't as high as you'd expect them to be, doesn't mean you have the right to say that the future for australian womens bowling doesn't look that promising. instead of looking at the results, why don't you look at the actual bowling.
results can always improve, once you have a style, it's very hard to change. also there are more things that matter than the results you get, like friendship, and courage, which includes being able to put your name on your post.

Well said jess...
Im sure there could be better things to do about it if you really think its that bad upyours- like help out in a junior program somewhere instead of being gutless and posting it on a forum.l wakeup,
slats

Upyours, I can see where you are coming from. Seeing the scores the past year for Junior tournaments isnt as good as it was say 2 years ago! WHY? because 2 years ago, you were watching juniors that had been bowling since they were say 12-14 years old. They had grown together and competited together for years. All until the age of 17 and 18. Look at the age of these Juniors! Most of them are only 13-16 years old and probably only just starting. Have you thought of that? These juniors are trying to get experience and get better by bowling these 'Major' Junior tournaments. Its comments like yours that make young juniors want to quit. Give them time to learn the sport and get the experience they need to improve.
Now Im sure if you look at the talent you will realise we have QUITE a few very talented females out there!

Bianca Flanagan - Asian schools team and correct me if Im wrong - Youth FIQ team SQ state team for how many years? (awesome effort)
I will have to say the WHOLE SQ team - out of all the team roll offs I saw, SQ had the highest qualifying rounds!
Samantha Fisher - ACT State team for 3 years in a row
Toni Woodcock just out of Juniors
Kate Murray - just out of juniors
Hayli Mazzoni - could have the potential if she could keep her attitude under wraps (havent seen her for 6 months so im not sure what shes like now)
Clair Johnston - SA State team for how many years?
Emma Tubb - TAS state team for how many years?

This is just to name a few - I have been out of Juniors for 3 years and these are the names I still remember and know-what about the ones who are just starting!!!!!!!
Give these kids a go and see where they are in 3 years!!!
Keep it up girls!!!!!!!!!

well i still believe there is a lot of talent out there and it is only going to improve over time

the girls i have seen in the last few months have been constantly improving

hayli mazzoni-she has recently moved to qld in the last 6 mths and has shown a vast improvement since her first wk of league at milton-i believe she has the talent still to go far

carly allen-i havent seen this girl for a few yrs but she is absoulutely awesome and improved greatly since the first time i saw her in 2000 too :)

kelly young-wat ive heard bout this girl she is trully going to shine in the yrs to come

reese leckie-this girl is yet another true talent of australian junior girls

i could sit here and name heaps of girls but i would b here all day

so there is purely heaps of talent if u open ur eyes UPYOURS

emma rutten she did a greta job on the weekend two 300's and a 290 to follow her 300..... shes a very good bowler after she hurt her knee what a come back !

I am entitled to an opinion., which I have tried to express on this board. I am trying to say that of all the female juniors I have seen recently (and I have been to all the major junior events in Australia over the last two years)..not a one of them is impressive. Missed spares and a weak strike ball coupled with an inability to play numerous angles on the lane are the symptoms of an overall lack of knowledge and or talent.

Just because you are selected to a team or that you bowled your way onto a team, doesn't mean you're a great bowler. It simply means that the others performed even worse at that particular time. Put only non- bowlers in a tournament and someone will undoubtedly win. Does that mean the winner is a good bowler?..I think the answer is obvious.

Lots of names have been bandied about in your responses. The latest being Emma Rutten. ..Well Emma Rutten is NOT a junior bowler. Nor are most of the other names mentioned in this thread.
I stand by my past statement that I will not name any names. To do so would only embarass the bowlers in question. You all know who they are..Maybe you should act like a true friend and let them know that it takes more than an expensive arsenal of bowling equipment to make a great bowler.

I will be at the Junior Nationals in Melbourne watching and taking notes. More will be said when the tournament is completed.

SHOW ME WHAT YOU CAN DO!

Upyours, yes, you are entitled to your opinion no one is attemtping to take that from you. Your comment saying that none of us can read, was low and mainly uncalled for. I can, I believe, understand what your trying to say, and so i propose these questions to you.

1) What do you expect from Australias Female Junior Bowlers?
2) Besides whinging about it on a forum, what actions are you taking to help the junior females in your area?

Another forum member has the signiture which says- Words are Words. Actions Speak. (i believe it is Sean M, i may be wrong, but it is in Latin in his signiture) So please upyours, you have brought your valid opinion to the view of the bowling community in australia, and a couple of overseas visitors, tell us what you plan to do about the small predicament you believe junior female bowling is in.

Later Da Cowman!

well all the bowlers i mentioned bar one (carly allen) are still juniors and carly has just come out of juniors

i know a hell of a lot of guys that have weak strikes and missed spares does this mean that u r going to pay them out as well??

i believe that the future of junior girls is growing weaker but not coz of their bowling its because of the lack of awareness about ten pin bowling in general

i believe that our junior girls r up there with our junior guys

yes upyours u r entitled to an opinion but sumtimes such opinions arent called for............

think before u speak next time and everyone has been reading this forum word for word so they havent taken anything out of context

good luck to everyone at nats ESPECIALLY ALL JUNIOR GIRLS!!!

Yes I agree I think the focus should be the positives right now. I mean if any potential junior girls see this what are they going to think of bowling "oh yeah i really wanna join this sport where I get paid out for doing my best"...great selling point.

Yes it might be an issue that needs to be addressed but honestly, raising an issue is different to the way this has been raised, this is more like a slinging match to be truthful.

If we want more potentially terrific junior girls to come into this sport then we need to encourage them and foster them coaching wise. We have to make them WANT to join this sport. I have seen many juniors out there, both boys and girls, that have potential but they fall by the wayside.

Opinions are fine if substanciated but at the end of the day, something must be DONE to get more juniors into this sport. There ARE a lot of great junior girls going around and I have seen a number of them training in their own time by themselves at their local centre giving it their best shot. To critisize them is to critisize the sport in general. They are doing their best and they are coming of age. They are doing what they can with the resourses they have and the way I see it, are doing a great job.

Lets get back to encouraging them rather than pulling them down. Actions speak louder than words and i hope that at the Nationals their actions speak louder than the loudest shout ever could. Keep up the great bowling girls.

Up Yours...between the ages of 13-18 alot of female bowlers are focused much mroe on their school an d social lives then there bowling. Which is fair enough. But the way some young females continue tim improve week after week even with all this on their shoulders is still amazing..

Not being a prick or anything but men have always apart from certain occasions averaged more than Women.

I bet if you catch up with some of these names in a few years time they will be miles ahead of where they are today if bowling is their number one:

Bee Flanagan
Sam Fisher
Kelly Young
Christine Day
Lauren Rochester
Jess McGinty
Lozz Robb

And the list would go on and on:

Take a trip down to Melbourne and see the skills of our yougn Australian bowlers.

Oh and well said by Jess.

Not even brave enough to put your name to a post.

Hey duff starr Carly is still a Junior and will be leading the Vics into Presidents shield at Forest hills in a few weeks. And yes she is a star. And to upyours, I dont know who your been watching but the Girls ive seen over the last 3 years have awsome talent. Im sure if you were game enough to let us know who you are some of them would love a challenge of a few games. lol

sorry philby i forgot that she still has one year

say hi to her for me :) its amanda

and wish her good luck and the rest of the girls

take care

I now understand what you are trying to say, upyours. But tell us, what, in the way of junior girls, have you seen that made you express your opinion?? How many girls have you watched bowl from other states (other than your own, where ever the hell it is)? There are so many to name that are aboslutely fantastic, even from my own state, WA. Sylvia wilson must be one of the best juniors in WA, in Australia for that matter. There are others like Bianca, Emma, Carely, Sam Fisher etc. Also Michael makes a vild point, most girls do go to school, have work commitments and do socialise, which does get in the way of bowling.

I hope when you are nationals, that these girls show you what they can really do, because we all know they have the potential to do it

Good Luck to everyone at shield only a few weeks left, Go WA

duff_star you were right that there was one name that has finished juniors claire johnston had her last year last year...

anyway i think enough has been said on this topic cant we just put it to rest and instead of bitching about it on here get out there and help our juniors like go to your local centre and c if you can help out any of the juniors trust me it makes a difference and as a couple of people have said actions speak louder than words...

so come on guys instead of wasting your time bitching on here put that time to good use and get out there and help the kids it will only take a few hours out of your week its not all that much i think i spend only around 2 hrs on a friday arvo with them plus if im working when kids come in i make sure i take some time out to go down and have a chat with them and give em a hand it doesnt take that much of an effort

cheers mel

I'm slighty dissapionted that upyours has failed to answer the questions that i asked him. i didnt think they would be too hard if he was doing more then whinging...

later Da Cowman!

Unluckies UPYOURS, you gots shutdown mate. There is alot of female talent out there wether it emerging or not yet discovered its still out there. :D

I have read all your responses and have drawn this conclusion. Most of you can't even read so how can I expect you to understand my point. I am NOT bagging anyone..nor am I denigrating any beginner bowlers ability. There are some great female bowlers in Australia..but as a whole, our junior girls are not very good.

lol BLOODY HELL WHAT IS UR PROBLEM, i might have backed u up on that other post in the other forum but u sure like to stir things up dont u!!!!
AS IF ur not trying to bag out the girls!!
how are girls ever going to exel in the sport if half wits like u knock them back down every 5 seconds!!!!
are u gonna say the same thing about the boys?? or are u just sexist? i think there is ALOT of young talent in aussie both boys and girls.... hang on lets look at who has been on the pro tour?? as far as i know the ones that got somewhere on that where girls were they not?? and y is it that the "sport ambassitor" as i would call her cara honeychurch is also a girl...hmmm what a suprise!!!

i bet i know at least 50 girls that could most likely beat u at the sport or at least give u a run for ur money! and ur also to soft to give ur name and state.....now i dont want to OFFEND u or ne thing but man as we would say in tassie.....you're soft
is it jsut me or do u set out to make everyone hate u?

but i would want to offend u or ne thing now would i?? no coz that is EXACTLY how u are making the girls feel
