Ball landing on approach area rule?

Hi
I have been told that ball landing on the approach area just before the foul line is a foul.
I tried to check this out on online rule sites but can find no reference.
thanks in advance for any replies.

Not a foul, unless you follow it over the line.

CT sums it up nicely. Not good for the approach though. And today's high friction balls will just stand up and roll out almost instantly if they hit the approach. The ball will hit as if it were about half it's weight!
