South Pacific Classic Squad Listings

We are still taking bookings for reserves for all squads .. please leave your name and preferred squad (we can make you a reserve for the next available spot in all squads if you like)

Hi Graham

Bruv (Mark Foster) asked me to post and ask if he can be listed as a reserve to change into C squad.

Thanks!

Hey Graham could add me to the reserve list for all squads plz
i do hope AMF do add another squad or they might just extend A squad
Thanks

Chris   :p  :?:

I hate to say it, but reserves may have to miss out!!! If there isn't enough drop-outs. It pays to get in early!!!!!!
I don't think they will be able to add another squad, there simply isn't enough time in the weekend. A sqaud is first thing in the morning and C is now 5:30 by the time C squad is finishes it will be about 10:00pm it will be really late. The only way you could add another squad is if people don't mind bowling at 1:00 and 2:00 in the morning. Don't forget each sqaud will be divided up to about 4 bowlers a pair becasue the squads are so large. By the time lane changes are done after games, its alot of time.
But to see so many bowlers in a tournament is an awsome sight!!!!!
Hope all the entries are real and not people just adding names and pulling out at the last minute.
My question is now the squads are bigger will the Prize fund be bumped up??
I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes you are right, I think we just physically dont have enough room for another squad. Though dont quote me on this. We may start asking shortly for bowlers to send deposits - it may not be a bad idea to send one now to absolutely confirm you are going. :)

More shortly, I know it's tough to know what to do .. but who could have possibly picked that this was going to happen ? Certainly not me !

If it's at all possible, why not add an extra squad on the Friday night. We have done it for local champs. and also for the State Disabled champs. If people are that eager to bowl they will turn up a day earlier.

Sandi

Because its a 3 day event with 3 squads bowling 2 days of qualifying, then the finals.

We would need to run the squads the same days as the other qualifying - unfortunately these tournaments dont work quite the same as Local/City/State/National Championships.

could you please pull peter kalwy out of A squad cause i can not make it down that week thanxs

sth pacific classic

with all these bowlers theres only going to be one problem and thats parking lol moorabbin hasnt got a big carpark

Cameron Jenkins as reserve to any squad

In regards to parking, a lot will be interstaters so parking wont matter :)

Graham,i think in the future you should seriously look at the deposit issue, lately theres simply too many people changing this and changing that and pulling out and so forth.I understand that people can get ill, family probs etc...,but still it should be looked at in future tournaments,

regards
glen

I was just looking through all the posts and maybe some people will disagree with me but I think its really bad that women are being put as reserves for SPC.
Tournement organisers are always complaining that there are never enough women entering tournements, yet I know of 3 girls who are on the waiting list.
If this tournement didn't have seperate squads I would agree with "first in best dressed". But there are seperate divisions and yet there are only about 40 women entered so far, but about 128 men.
I understand that more men enter than women in a standard tournement. If the total capaticity for 3 squads is 168 bowlers, then it should be open to 100 men and 68 women... at least. If then they don't receive enough entries in the womens division, then the remaining spots should be open to anybody who is still wanting to bowl.

Just my thoughts. I am interested in hearing what other people think whether the agree or disagree with me.

Thanks,

Carly Allen

I agree that every effort should be made to accomodate all women who wish to enter any tournament.

The problem I see with your argument is that all bowlers have known for a long time when the SPC was to be bowled. All bowlers who did not win a zone SPC final had plenty of time to put in an entry. They ideally should have put in an entry as soon as they didn't win a zone final.

However I can't really talk as I too only put my entry in when I found out the entries were filling fast.

There is a solution to this problem. AMF should take this years Zone finals one step further and have all spots for bowlers for the SPC determined as it used to do until the early 90's.

Determine no of bowlers (i.e. entries male/female) accomodated in the SPC Final
Determine no of spots to be allocated to International federations
Allocate spots accordingly to all AMF centres
Allocate any subsequent spots to selecte other centres
Run finals in the centres to determine SPC Final participants

Whether the spot includes airfares etc. will depend a lot on what sponsorship or funding can be obtained.

You couldn't just turn up and bowl in the original SPC tournament and I think this system should be reintroduced to restore the prestige that this event once had.

The qualifying circuit can be timed to avoid major events and will provide a regular circuit for bowlers where currently none exists.

I developed my game by chasing the SPC qualifying circuit in the late 80's and early 90's. I think it will provide a way for todays bowlers to develop their games allowing them to compete against the best bowlers as they do it.
