Moonah Classic RESULTS

March 2nd brought us the First Event of The TASMANIAN Grand Prix Series. The event attracted 27 entries from all parts of the state with a good day had by all. The bowling was very fair with a very tough lane condition being laid down for the event (40 ft xmas tree), with only 2 ppl over the card for the tourney. Who said you can't lay down oil at Mooanh and not make it last or not have a day full of ball returns because of too much oil?? hehe.

After the 1st 6 games Qualifying, not one bowler was over the card as sparing and ability not to throw spilts were a must.

Congrats go to Garry Crick, Matt Crammond, Andrew Phillips, Debbie Bowtell, Emma Tubb, Jayson Griggs, John Phillips, and Ted Tylutlki who all progressed to the Matchplay round.

In the Matchplay Round, the lanes seemed to open up a bit or the bowlers learned how to bowl on it. Not sure which one!! hehe Garry Crick Steam rolled the field with +100 scratch and all 7 wins putting him into the No.1 Posn for the stepladder. Andrew Phillips also Bowled well with +77 and only losing to Garry for 6 wins. Jayson, Debbie and Ted made up the other 3 posns for the Step ladder final.

						GARRY CRICK

Always good to have some very close games for the crowd value in the Step Ladder final. Once Again, congratulations to Garry Crick on a very fine effort.

Many thanks go out to Ian Maguire and the staff at Moonah bowl for a great job with the Lanre Preparation and Looking after all the bowlers and helpinh me with the scoring while I bowled.

A BIG THANK YOU to WARREN STEWART, AMF Southern Regional Manager, for the Sponorship and the support he Donated to us.

Thank you also to everyone that particiapted in the event and making it a huge success. I look forward to you all (PLUS A FEW MORE!!!!!!!!) to be bowling in the next event, The Launceston Doubles Skins on May 18th. Watch Out for entry forms, they will be out very soon.

Congratulations and a big thank you to Hayden and AMF for a great tournament.

Great format, tough but fair conditions, a good turn out, a well organised tournament & with over half the field cashing = A VERY ENJOYABLE SUNDAY AT MOONAH.

Hayden has spent a great deal of time arranging sponsorship from AMF and getting the Grand Prix Series up and running and he now needs the support of all competitive bowlers in Tasmania to get behind him and make the series a success.

Androo & KC - That may be the first & last time I run out a shot. I was that exhausted after the strike that I didn't think I was going to make it back to lane 8 to bowl my last shot.

I would also like to thank "Bruvs Proshop" on the sponsorship of a $50 voucher for Tournamnet High Game, and would also like to thank him for the Kind Donation of a "storm" bowling ball for the bowler of the year.

Mark Foster

Yes thank you Bruv for your VERY KIND donation. You know we all love the Bruv.

Just kidding Bruv :D

Moonah Classic

Congratulations to Garry Crick and indeed everyone who bowled on Sunday to make the Moonah Classic a very well patronized event.
Bad luck to Androo with a solid 10-pin costing him the Classic.
Many thanks go to Gus, AMF, Ian Maguire & Staff here at Moonah for insuring the tournament went off without a hitch.

In what was one of the toughest conditions I've seen in almost 20 years of bowling, I was pretty surprised to make the cut and cash in the event.
Things were going quite well until about halfway through matchplay when I flagged three 7-pins in the same game against Cricky
It was certainly very interesting to learn how to bowl on something completely foreign to what I have ever bowled on before.

I think that the amount of entries received is about the best we will see for a tourney down here.
I heard the ramblings from a few "older bowlers" who wouldn't enter because of the amount of oil and so forth.
I though it made it a fairer shot to be honest - nobody had any room  So it put a premium on accuracy and spare shooting - when mine failed, I dipped out - simple as that.

Thanks for the $165 cash too :D :D that is certainly a bonus after not cashing in any event last year. :D
Keep up the great work

Lane Oiling

This is a general comment and not directed at anyone in particular.

Unfortunately you can't please everyone when you oil up some lanes for a Tourney, BUT in this case, as far as I am concerned THE ONLY ONES THAT ARE KNOCKING IT ARE THE ONES THAT DIDN'T BOWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All reports I have heard back and have been posted is that everyone thought it was a tough but fair condition. IS THIS NOT WHAT WE WANT FROM TOURNEYS????? If people want me to ditch em up and make it a CARRYFEST, I am quite happy to do so, BUT, WHAT DO YOU LEARN FROM THAT?? SWEET FA!!!!!!!!! I am sorry, but 2 PPL over the card is a good, close, and tightly contested event. This is the plan for all 4 events this year, so if you don't like, DON'T BOWL and IF YOU DON'T BOWL, DON'T KNOCK IT until you TRY AND BOWL ON IT!!!!

Also, a bit of prior warning for all competitors in this Years Ultimate Teams Challenge in June. THIS YEARS EVENT WILL BE ON A TOUGH BUT FAIR, HEAVY/LONG OILED LANE PATTERN.

Are you going to BOYCOTT that too????

Somebody PLS print this out and put on a NOTICE BOARD inside the Bowling Centres.

Gus, I totally agree.

The condition layed down on Sunday was probably the toughest condition layed down at Moonah for a long, long time (aside from when the Summit or VLS pooped itself). But it was FAIR, and for a lot of guys, especially for the bowlers from here, it was a taste of a condition where you actually had to be ACCURATE on. We get spoiled too much in league, where the shot is hit half the lane. It's good to get back to proper bowling every now and then.

For all the bowlers in Hobart, I hope they do support these tournaments, because you will learn to play many shots, which will only help your bowling. I know that in the few tournies bowled last year, I learned a hell of a lot.

As far as I'm concerned, I love the tougher conditions, but maybe we should have one completely ditched up tournament a year, a la the 2nd Lonny skins last year. Let's face it, it's fun to average 230 every now and then.
