Minister for Human Resources will open Australian Disability Tenpin Championships

Tasmania’s Minister for Human Services and Community Development, the Hon. Cassy O’Connor MP will be a guest of honour at the Opening ceremony of the 7th TBA Australian Disability Tenpin Bowling Championships on Saturday morning, 23 June. Ms. O’Connor has been invited to address participants and their supporters, and to join tournament officials in bowling the first ball of the Championship after declaring the official start to the week-long competition.

A record number of more than 200 bowlers from all around Australia have registered to compete in this annual Championship which is being held in Hobart for the first time since its inception in 2005.

Players from a wide variety of groups, including Special Olympics, Deaf Sports, Ausrapid, Blind Sports and Wheelchair Sports Australia will compete in a range of individual and team events, with two new Masters events added to the schedule. The inaugural MOVES TRAVEL Perpetual Shields and trophies will be presented to the top-scoring bowlers in both Restricted and Open divisions on the final day of competition – Friday, 29 June.

“Entries for this year’s Championships have exceeded our expectations, and we’re delighted that Minister O’Connor will be honouring us by attending the Opening ceremony,” said Tournament Director, Tony Morris. “Ms. O’Connor’s commitment to policy reform that protects the rights of Tasmanians with disabilities and their families is renowned, and I’m sure her presence will be inspirational to our participants from all around Australia,” he added.
