The countdown has begun to one of the highlights on the international calendar of the sport of Tenpin Bowling.

From 2-8 July, teams from 17 Commonwealth nations will compete in the III Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship in Melbourne, Australia. The Championship is a biennial event, previously staged in Scotland and Cyprus and this year it will be hosted by Tenpin Bowling Australia at OzTenpin Bowl in Altona.

Under the auspices of the international Commonwealth Games Federation, officially endorsed Commonwealth Games Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are awarded to the winners and placegetters of Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Teams and Masters events in this unique Championship that attracted participants from 15 countries to the inaugural event in 2002 and is growing steadily in popularity and participation numbers.

The 17 teams competing this year are:- Australia -George Frilingos, Glen Loader, Ann-Maree Putney, Tracey Madden
Bahamas, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Cyprus, England, Gibraltar, Guernsey, India, Jersey, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Pakistan, Scotland and Wales. The newly-established Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation will make its debut appearance in the III Commonwealth Championship after receiving an invitation in April to join the Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Federation.

In conjunction with this year’s Championship, the Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Federation will hold a Congress meeting of member Federations, during which elections for the Federation’s Executive committee will be held. Federation President, Julian Pace-Bonello from Malta and current members of the Executive committee have renominated for a further four-year term while the position of Roving Vice-President will be determined in accordance with Federation Statutes. An announcement is also expected regarding the venue for the 2008 Championship.
