Nomination for a coveted ‘Best Bowler’ ESPY Award capped a memorable week for Aussie bowling star Jason Belmonte.

The reigning PBA Bowler of the Year has just arrived back in Australia after a whirlwind trip to the United States to participate in International Bowl Expo, a highlight bowling-industry event on the sport’s calendar, during which he was honoured with the ‘Best Bowler of the Year’ award by the International Bowling Media Association. Earlier in the week, the CBS Sports network televised his dramatic victory in the PBA TOUR FINALS, his 18th career title.

The annual ESPY Awards, presented by US network ABC, recognise top individual and team sporting achievements in the preceding calendar year. By comparison to other major award ceremonies like the Oscars or the Emmys, fans have a say in who gets to win an ESPY for their sporting accomplishments and polling is now underway, enabling fans to vote online via the ESPY’s official ballot site – http://www.espn.com/espys/story/_/page/voting52/vote-best-sports. Fans also can vote at ESPN’s social media platforms (@ESPN on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) and @ESPYS (Twitter).

The ESPY Awards assemble some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment and will be telecast live on ABC on Wednesday, 18 July, from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. Based on previous stats, the glamorous event will reach more than five million viewers across America in broadcast’s key demographic – adults 18-49.

34-year old Belmonte is already a four-time ESPY winner (2011, ’15, ’16 and ’17), and last year equalled PBA Hall of Famer Norm Duke who won three consecutive ESPYs between 2007 and 2009. This year’s nomination gives Belmonte the chance to become the first bowler to achieve the honour of winning this prestigious accolade over four consecutive years.
