Brendan Meads; aka Gman, aka Gympie Horse, aka Jughead, aka .... (how many names does he have?) has taken out the Harbour City Classic for 2011 in memorable fashion.

Qualifying started with Adam Harmsworth bowling a great 276-248 out of the blocks. Greg Worland led the way after A squad, bowling consistently to hold a 214.25 average. B squad started with a bang. Feeling at home (because he was) Dominic Carswell had 278-254 first block, while Dale Warren rolled 238-269 and Nathan Stein shot 235-269. Dale followed up next block with 277-237 for 1021 for his first 4. Scott Gillington then thrilled us with his own 500 block and the highest game in qualifying with 210-290. He later shot an awesome 278-279 block trying to run down Dominic, but Dominic had another 278 of his own. Dominic finished with a 249 game to lead qualifying, followed by Scott and Brendan, with all three averaging over 220.

Stage 2 began bright and early Sunday morning and the tournament director's evil side showed with pinfall dropping for a 20 bowler 5 game sprint. Brendan dominated with 258-212-258-245-257 to average 246. Damian Ross (233.4 average) and Graham Allen (221.2) followed in second and third.

Pinfall again dropped for matchplay, and the top 12 bowled 11 games head to head with 20 bonus per win. Several bowlers had the scores early, but it soon became a two horse race between Brendan and Dominic. Brendan made a statement, defeating Dominic in game 5, 289-215. The two fought hard after that, neither being able to break away. Dominic was lead Brendan by 32 pins going into the last game, with the next 4 bowlers having an outside chance.

Brendan saved the best for last, literally striking at will. The crowd were pretty much convinced he was going all the way after the first 6 strikes. He did not disappoint, lighting up the lanes with an electric 300 game to take first place. Dominic held onto second from a strong finishing Graham Allen (256-216-230-254 for his last 4).
