GOLD CUP

SCOOPS

GUINNESS SWILLUS
Well its on again and making me more home sick than ever. Will be the first Gold Cup I have missed since forgoing my junior status way back in 87.

Well not that I have seen all the teams entered but it looks like it should be a hard fought out tourney between Rent-a-Plant and Rachuig. The former being defending champions with only one change in the line-up that being me out and Neil Block in, Go get em Neil your first Gold Cup and I trust it will be a successful one for you. I'm sure your going to make it hard for me to get a birth again... Hey guys this year don’t make it so obvious to the other teams that none of you really want to play the next round. Hopefully you can beat our 3 game record last year of 3451 - All the Best guys

Rachuig on the other hand, as it has been for the last 6 or so years has a real change in the line-up, being led this year by Michael Muir, hot off his SPC WIN, and preparing for his 2nd assault at the World Cup Title early November in Thailand.

Rachuig being filled this year by a number of rookies (i.e. 1st&2nd yr reps) will be eager to set the books straight I should imagine. Although one of the Rachuig’s main concerns each year is not get into any sledging wars with other teams , especially R.A.P, Kenny the coach knows this doesn’t always comes to plan.
Michael just can’t help himself in certain situations, like any of us, all done in good fun I might add.
But with the likes of a cpl of the rookies such as Scottie to Hottie, I mean lets face it who would have that as a nickname, open for slander. And now that Andrew has fallen back in love well the door is wide open there for some fun, Cant really get into Clinton though as most of it passes by, Power Bowler is always good for some fun while he's ripping down that sanded whatever it is, whose next hang on better go check the list again, aahhh sorry about that, Brad Ellis I’m sure Baron or Wimpy can come up with plenty of Ammo for that one, and as for Chris lucky last, well he always tries to sledge lets see how he does in this situation

The key to GOLD CUP is to sledge as many as you can however be able to have A beer (OR TEN) with one another at the end. I trust everyone realises that it is all done in good fun and nothing is taken to personal and if not well all you will do is add fuel to the fire.

Best of Luck to Rent a Plant Mens and Womens lets hope that you get the double as it was in the year 2000.

Good Luck to Sue her first time as Tournament Director in this tournament I’m sure it will all be smooth sailing.

Perhaps one day the tournament will get quite lucrative that it may lure a team from the east coast, now that would make it fun maybe even just a bowler from each other state, or if T.B.A. ever get financial again they could sponsor 6 bowlers from the National squad to come over as a training expedition. Who knows!

GIDDY UP!!!!!!

I hope someone over there will be posting updates and results each day.

Perhaps one of the FUBAR who isnt bowling can hop on at Sues Puter and keep me informed

Cheers guys

GIDDY UP!!!!

Ahhh The Scoopster, Still trying to stir the pot even though he is a few thousand clicks away. Yes the day has finally arrived and FUBAR is as ready as we'll ever be with some of us actually using new equipment. Me with a new aggot (storm TRAUMA) and new shoes. Stax with a new ball (Quantum I think)as well as Neil with 2 new balls. Dont worry Neil I wont say anything about the 5 7 10 on Thursday night. Deb left one as well just to make you feel better. As for the sledging well I'm not so sure that most of it will come from our team although we seem to attract attention and we can certainly dish it out if pushed. But I've copped a bit of flak lately over this issue so I think I might just sit back and let someone else have a go for a change. Hmmmmmmm that should last about 1 frame I reckon. More games this year so a bit more use of the bench I would say or better use of the bench perhaps and good to see a few old faces coming back this year. Steve Johnstone for one and I cant wait to see him in full flight. He's as snaky as it gets so look out those of you who have never bowled against him. My old sparring partners The Mens Club are back I think and they are always good for a slanging match even before we bowl. Im sure Stax will organise the results to be shown here and who knows we may have an inter-state team one day. Cant wait should be fun as always and you know I'm serious when I even get a haircut for the big event!!!!! Baron

Did they cancel todays play?

No results, come on guys someone must have a spare 5-10mins to put them up or was it that bad, certainly couldnt be as bad as the old Mirrabooka days

GIDDY UP!!!!!

Scoops - i'm more than a little disappointed .. logged on this morning expecting some news from the west - but alas, none, nothing, zip, zero, zilch.
Cmon guys lets see something
icon_smile.gif

Well the Call just came in and the boys did it again, (Who would have ever doubted it)

TBy the sounds of it they could have called a cpl of games ago rather than with one game to go, slipping boys we knew before lunch on the last day last yr, but i'll let u off

Playing Rachuig the last game, now is that the team that said the week before to a cpl of you that they were going to win, how many points in front are you 11 with 7 per game possible and what i believe about 1800pins in front on pinfall

Whats this I heard the major sponsor was asked to leave the players area thats a nice touch considering how hard it is to find sponsors and now we're basically saying we only want their money but not their interest aswell, goodness

Oh Well never mind wouldnt be Gold Cup I suppose if we didnt have some of this going on...lol

Hope you all and I mean everyone enjoyed their w/end, Buggers, you really know how to hurt a guy

Have a guiness or 10 for me, or my usual amount would do

Wimpy must be a very happy boy, East Perth, Brisbane Lions and now Gold Cup

A SPECIAL CONGRATULATIONS to Annie her first Gold Cup and no better way than with a win, thats how I started my campaign and I hope you get to bowl many more.

GIDDY UP!!!!!

Yes, Gold Cup 18 has been run and won.
Rent-a-Plant (men’s) back to back wins. 18.5 points in the end.
Well done to the team. Harty and Wimbridge were like Rocks all the way through. They played FANTASTIC. Tom, Neil And Bushell were consistent all day long ,all averaging well over the card, Baron (junior Hacksaw) great, and of course me, hopeless.
I'm just glad the other boys did all the work.
Well done to "The Undertakers" for sticking it out all weekend for a hard fought 2nd, and to Rachuig, only a point behind in 3rd.
Special mention to Bunbury and Kal for making the trip and to all the other teams for making the weekend as great as it was.
"Rip-the-Rack Gould" stand up and take a bow, friendly and fun as always.
Jason, Scottie, Clinton and Craig, thanks for those rips, messengers and can-openers.
I think Jason wins for the biggest and fastest shot of the weekend, Lane 24 Day 2.
It was a close call with Craig, but Jason gets my vote. Plenty of action for the book of shame… that will come later.
Sorry Al for the lack of updates, but we were out every night. Toooo buggered when I got home. Anyway, we phoned you instead.
I cant comment to much on the ladies, maybe Amanda can help out there. (Thanks Amanda)
I hope to see all again next year.

“Rent-a-Plant” the greatest sponsor of bowling in the West.

Yoh Al..if the Gold Cup was a poker hand..youve ended up with a full house.
Your favourite Fubars did it for you..then to top it of, Annie was in the winning womens team..so your Dad is stoked as well.
On Saturday..a mini tornado of sorts had ripped through Armadale,so the rain was belting down for the opening day.
Good ole Fairlanes with it drafty underpark had the approaches damp in no time..they were abrupt..sole changes everywhere.
As the balls headed down in practise..all these 3 counts everywhere..10 board and out..both sides..out of bounds...14 ..5 man teams left with 20 boards to play with..can you imagine the traffic between 10..15 board.
So hello Gold cup..abrupt approaches and out of bounds..
We ..like true pro s..adjusted quickly...we got 1 point the first game..
let me add we then won the next 22 games..lost to Tiny Terrors..(the pricks s)..Tiny even sat on me at the presentation..whole 10 ton of him.It was at a crucial stage(after lunch..4 games to go)we got 2.
With 3 games to go this cut our lead to 10.so it was rally time..1000 plus..then an 1151..then 6 points off Rachuig.and the t,ment was over.(18.5 pts final win margin.)So 2 games lost out of 26.
The Undertakers were watching our game more than theirs..as they were a point behind Rachuig going into the last ...and wanted us to do a number on them..(as if we needed a reminder)
The coffin boffins struggled to win 3 pts..but enough to
pip "the boys "by a pt.
The Gianotti family came down to cheer on son in law Neil and would have been pleased at how well he bowled. He won some real clutch games and shredded quite a few racks.Your recommended replacement is to be congratulated.
Stax and Greg had more then their moments (Stax is being modest)..i dont know the exact numbers but when the team shoots 19 or 20 1000 s..4 or 5 1100 s
and the sub 1000 s were only just under..abrupt approaches and out of bounds..997 pins ahead of rachuig..then
nothing was horrible.
If anything the rachuig team will be fit..9..9..8 games each day.
They had the high game 1212 day 1.
You could say that there werent tooooo many quarters given or taken in the match play..some 7 or 8 yellow cards were handed out by young Shane...Tournament director...Adolph Hitler.
Baron..am i allowed to tell that you copped one as well..You definetly said "carnt".
So it was pretty red blooded.
Morssy ..but then thats not surprising...you carnt..theres that word again...throw your bowling ball into your bag from 5 metres away..if you miss the pocket..how can you exspect to hit the bag...how Willy Fox got away with one..heard "the word" out in the car park after a cold 8 pin beats me.Adolph was in the toilet.
Steve W. our Captain this year...apparently..unapposed anyway..couldnt get yellow carded cause he bowled so well..he was having a ball on the lanes..he clutch struck on so many occassions..cause you know his opponents gun for him..but like a true warrior he fort of 230,240,s with crucial strikes..he ll stay up all nite tonite watching the Seinfeld marathon on Fox.He was great.
Harty..well you had to see it to believe it...bit like sitting in a deck chair watching this flowing thing string strikes.
All he left all weekend was raps coupled with 10,000 strikes.
He shot the sweetest 299...left the 5 pin...lol...except the 2 pins that went screeming past it could have done better..was a great shot.
Gotta tell ya..this morn..we all get in exspecting the 20 board playing area..approaches still abrupt....
they were dry...bone f....lipping dry..1 board was now a shot..weeeeee...the place was a buzz...Rachuig were not happy JAN..there were meetings everywhere..it was back to that 220 averge pattern..or was it..for the next 4 games there was 1 ...1000..shot...us..there are splits you would nt believe..there was also some huge strings...we go..6..6...6...6.pts..what a team..whatever the conditions..we were there.and thats what Stax means..we didnt all fire and when we didnt ..the team still shot 1000 plus.
How cool is tea bags...John Bushell...on day 2 he shot 200 over..clutch strikes..some lanes got him...like all of us(less the 2 Steves) but he was so good..so reliable..when he left a spare..you could eat another freddo..or snake.(your favoutite) with calmness.
Now Stax is a different story (this t,ment) his sparing was like going to the casino..ripping racks wasnt a problem.Grego searched and searched then found then blitzed then searched some more..and no matter what the team shot the 1000.
As for me..i like matchplay..i only lost 1 on day one..day 2 wasnt an easy day for me..and i broke even..then had a draw (Sandor brooklyn Schneider 216)..and lost 2 only today..the abrupt approaches was my main problem and fought with that for 3 days..i had 10 billion 9,s...missed only about 4 or 5 spares..2 single pins,...in a row..7 pin..after leaving 5 of them in the one game..i was p...d off i reckon at the time.....**** i was dirty.
But i suppose out of 20 odd games..im allowed a little lapse in concentration.
Steve..Hart...Wimbridge..and Michael Muir were the outstanding players.Michael was in top form..he is a class act...no doubt.
Makes you wonder doesnt it about what a team WA could field.
But then...should i say this out loud Al..we dont have a Manager..a coach..and we dont practise togather..perhaps being free..is the secret to our success.
On the other hand this Rachuig team i would sum up as exciting.(on the lanes...ill ring you and tell you what they were like off the lanes..lol)
Young Scotty and Brad throw great balls, and Andrew O keefe..who Frawls was impressed with is dangerous....Clinton Phelps still rocking the racks..and Mark Neil..son of Stan..who also bowled Rachuig for WA..nice to see a son following on...if the lanes suit look out.
Young Chris matthews also still on the learning curve has got a good future, and a good shot..its an anything could happen team.

Im nice to nite arnt i...see what a win does..you dont get yellow carded.
Would you believe that the Kalgoorlie team..(Gods GIft was their chosen team name)..
They all wore Hawaii shirts..in the middle of the frigging outback and they wear beach shirts..are they telling the world something..they had a ball..their bench wore big curley black wigs ..tea bitch was one name .They were a screem..this back up come straight bowler gave Steve W a hiding..all nose hits, splashes...runaway brookys..you can imagine our Steve reactions..we were killing ourselves...im still laughing now.
They were chanting..had their own cheer squad...as for Bunbury i think they only won 4 games..all against us..we shot 1151 at them and they still won 2 games..268 John Baker against Hartys 248..220 something against Bushys 200 something..everyone else they shot like dairy farmers.Dont you just love the country folk.
Thats why the saying goes...winners are grinners and the rest........
Our other golfer..even allowed into our lunch room..Darryl Gould..had a good 3 days..he was with the Undertakers..young Matty Rogers also with them did really well, and then Morssy (he and Michael had a fight to the death..Morss by a nose. You would have loved it.lol.)
Apart from the $2,800.00 1st prize we picked up another $375.00 on lane awards and 2 days high team games...and a pint of stout for you.
My pick for the most improved player...Steve Carter..your ex machinac from Melville..he s got such a good shot now..the rest will follow i presume.
The presentation was on at the Carlton Hotel..it was see food...the plates were empty before they hit the table..and we all bought exotic stuff before we found out the Emu bitter was on the house.lol our care factor was pretty low.
Shelley Fragall can whistle louder then any human on earth..and "our Amanda" Baron manageress for the Rachuig ladies has discovered new words to encourage the girls..must be over 18 to hear.
Some long weekends are drab..others make history..nice to have another memorable one.
One for the Gipper .You werent out of our mind at any stage..enjoy the win with us.

Well Tom, could not have said it better myself. Congratulations to Rent A Plant men for alot of fantastic bowling (except that first game).

From my point it was a great weekend. Not having bowled a tournament for 10 years I could not have asked for a better bunch of guys to have played with and what a great team effort to snatch a last gasp second place. Thanks Undertakers and thanks to Cath Higgins for looking after all of us guys for the weekend. Much appreciated.

I thought the Rachuig team were very subdued, a game plan that probably did not go quite as they would have liked and perhaps a rethink might be needed? Still looks like plenty of talent in the team and they should put up good show at the nationals. Good luck guys.

Great Sum up once again by
King Ali Bin Thomas Fubar

Greatly appreciatd

Ahhhhhh Freedom what a word, and when given results are as they have come electrifying
I dont think its the fact of having a coach and/or manager but how it is all moulded together.

I tell the boys over here that our team back home does serious training more so than here, dropped faces occur when i explain it invloves once a week golf followed by beer, once a month cards coupled with lots of beer aNd the occassionally tourney followed by more Beer,
ok ok ok I hear the critics and yes ur right most of us will never represent Australia (again) or some of the high prolific events however deep down ask, whos the happiest doing what i can remember starting as an 11yr old playing this great game for FUN ....

Dont get me wrong I have the greatest admiration for anyone who wishes and/or does play for their state and/or country its the proudest, or should be, moment in your life and i wish all who strive for it to hopefully accomplish it someday..
But it is a game and not one person in our Country makes a true living from it so lets gt a grip, dont be hpocritical Professionals be a TRUE PROFESSIONAL

Well I have decided now that my goal is for holidays to be around this time next year to visit my home, family and friends but on one condition and thats to be team manager of RAP.. I dont need to bowl but just be with my FUBAR friends and the w/end would be complete.

CONGRATULATIONS ONCE AGAIN GUYS I'm so very happy for you all

GOOD LUCK TO THE RACHUIG TEAMS BOTH MENS AND WOMENS I trust you will do us all proud and especially yourselves.. for some of you enjoy the experience as Rachuig is too a terrific event

GIDDY UP!!!

What a great weekend as usual and of course a win always helps. Well done to all the guys for a fantastic performance. Harty well what can I say, never looked like missing all weekend and completely demoralised his opponents. Wimpy was as slippery as ever and annoyed everyone as usual but bowled really well. Tea bags was amazing again always around the pocket but had some big games thrown at him but still pulled through. King FUBAR at anchor was terrific and once that moustache starts to curl up you know your in trouble. Our new rookie Neil rewarded our faith in him by winning some real close games and although he probably didnt bowl as well as he would have liked ( I know he was a bit dissappointed) he pulled through where it counts and got the points on the board in true FUBAR fashion. As for me and Stax well I reckon we had forgettable weekends but we won our share of points in the end even if we bowled crap so I guess thats all that matters. Overall it was a solid 3 day performance from our guys and to those people who wrote us off after game 1 well what can I say except "you idiot". A special mention to TD Shane. He really copped some stick for 3 days and handled himself with class. I hope the boffins at Fairlanes took note as he is to be applauded for his efforts. Great to see the country teams back again and I hope they will have exemption next year. I really think they should not have to roll off if it comes to that. RAP Ladies struggled this year but they won some crucial games and I'm sure they are wiser from the experience. To the Ladies winners the Dream Team what a great performance. Noisy as hell all weekend and I'm sure Jill will be smiling up there. Scoops gets the double with Annie being part of the team as well. I'm sure we will fit you in somewhere Scoops if your in town next year.
To the Rachuig sides all I can say is take what you can out of this and go over there and kick some arse, you know you can. All the best and do WA proud.
Well I'm already looking forward to next year especially if Scoops is in town and hope to make it 3 in a row. See you all next year. Baron

PS I still dont know how I got the first yellow card but I'm glad i did. LOL
