RENO, Nev. - Carol Gianotti of Perth, Australia, made the jump from fifth to first Monday morning as qualifying wrapped up at the 2006 United States Bowling Congress Queens.

Gianotti finished the 15 games of qualifying with a 3,270 total, including 1,153 five-game block Monday morning. Left-hander Dana Miller-Mackie of Albuquerque, N.M., sits in second at 3,257 while Shannon Pluhowsky of Lincoln, Neb., is third at 3,224.

The top 63 players advanced to join Tennelle Milligan of Costa Mesa, Calif., in the match-play portion of the Queens. Half of the bracket will compete at 1 p.m. PDT with the other half taking to the lanes at 3 p.m. PDT.

"It's a totally different ball game now," Gianotti said. "The whole thing is to make the top 63 and then anything can happen. I had a pretty good rhythm today, and hopefully I can keep it going."

Gianotti's five-game block Monday morning was the highest of this year's tournament. She had games of 193, 213, 266, 248 and 233.

The last player to make the match-play round was Catie Boroff of Mansfield, Texas, who finished 63rd at 2,873.

The Queens, which is presented by Eldorado, Silver Legacy and Circus Circus, features a prize fund of $200,000. The winner will take home $30,000 plus the Queens tiara, pendant and crystal trophy.

Match play will continue Tuesday and the top four players from the winners bracket and the winner of the contenders bracket will advance to Wednesday's stepladder finals at 7 p.m. PDT. The championship round is scheduled to be televised on ESPN2 on July 1 at noon EDT.

Go carol!

Hope you don't get too shocked when you come back to work and find the centre is gonna close :p

i would like to inform everyone that maxine was knocked out in the 5th round, losing by 1 pin, and that she deserves to be congratulated too!!

Thanks everyone for keeping an eye out. Carol and I both had a good tournament, Carol Finished in the 33-48 Bracket and myself 13-16. Carol had Lead the Qualifying, However some tough matches knocked both of us out. It's always amazing bowling in the stadium, nothing like seeing 4 kegal machines oiling at once!!!
We are both Headed of to Corpus Christi (Texas) this weekend for the USBC Mens Championships, for a little teams, dbls and singles action. Thanks for the thoughts,
Maxine
