Domestic Crickets split innings format

I'd like to get people's opinion on this new one-day split innings format for the domestic comp. I cannot see how this will benefit players trying to earn spots in the national team for the world cup, nor do I understand how it's going to attract crowds and TV ratings. The format is confusing, it doesn't make sense and I don't think its very appealing at all.
