For a while last night it looked as though Colac was going to have its 2nd ever 300 (official). No surprises who the bowler was - one Merv Billing. He finished game 2 of the night with 8 in a row before starting the next game with the first 9 -- 17 in a row!.
First ball of the 10th was a pocket 10 pin followed by a spare and a strike to finish with a 279 (-- to shoot 300 he would have needed 20 in a row - that is certainly doing things the hard way)

The one and only official 300 bowled in Colac was bowled in 1965 by Graham Thornton. It was the 15th perfect game bowled in Australia at that time. Since then we have had one 300 bowled in a non sanctioned event and i think Merv bowled one in practice with a ball that was not legal (illegal side weight - he was making sure the drilling was okay before adjusting side weight) We have had 5 or 6 299 games but no other 300's
