BELMONTE SURGES TO LEAD IN VIERNHEIM OPEN

Following two record-breaking results at the recent Men's World Championships in Korea, Jason Belmonte is now bowling in Viernheim, Germany.

The 2nd Gutperle Viernheim Open is a ‘major’ and the 15th stop of the prestigious European Bowling Tour.

Belmonte surged to the lead in the field of 369 players in last night’s qualifying squad with a 1463 six-game total and an average of 243.8.

Star of the former PWBA, Liz Johnson from the United States, is in second place with 1440, the top-ranked of 14 women currently featured in the top 58qualifiers.

Qualifying continues this morning, followed by the one-game "Desperado squad’ at 12.30 local time. Top 58 qualifiers, plus the top 6 "Desperados" will advance to the semi-final and bowl eight games from scratch to determine the cut to the top 40 finalists this evening.
