First off. Great Work Belmo. Well Done.
Ratty, I like the idea of a plastic ball event a lot!
Terry, I think that your argument holds water until you look at who made the final. All the players (Carter, Weber, Barnes & Fagan) all have good hand revs and great ball roll.
In the round of 8, same deal... Mike DeVaney,Chris Barnes, Pete Weber, Jack Jurek, Jeff Carter, Robert Smith, Brian Voss and Michael Fagan.
In the Round of 16, more guys with good hand and great ball roll.
So when we remove modern equipment, we see a notable absence of the guys who are more reliant on it for their roll and carry.
So I agree in so far as the lane conditions always dictate the scoring pace, but the type of player you are dictates whether you get a leg up from modern bowling balls. They are (and have been since urethane balls) performance enhancing compounds that offer much less advantage to players with BYO revs.
I'll also comment that a factor in the scores being high is that plastic balls don't burn up the heads and the players wouldn't have to move anywhere near as much.
Cheers,
Jason
