Interesting to see the range of opinions on this topic. I offer my opinion for what it's worth. I believe that skill should be the main factor in determining any sport team. Therefore I would open the team selection process to anyone whose egos believe they are good enough and choose the top players for team selection. This would allow bowlers who can't chase the ratings circuit to compete for the team. It could also increase the money available to support the final team as well as giving the unsuccessful bowlers experience and incentive to bowl in further trials.
