2010 QLD Ladies Classic Final Scores

The 12th Queensland Ladies Classic produced yet another great winner. Congratulations must go to BEC WHITING (Australian Youth rep.) from Vic. who held off a fast finishing Kate Pilkington (Old.) to record a win by only 9 pins. Bec Voukolos (NT) made a final charge but was unable to make up ground on the leaders. Ann-Maree Putney (NSW) tried all weekend but just did not get the carry needed to win.
For the first time in the history of women’s bowling in this country (off the top of my head and with 40 years of memory!!), three sisters made the Top 15 - Alicia Melton (nee Meads) - 6th , Bek - 7th and Tegan Meads - 15th. The 2009 Twin Tour Scratch winner, Tanya Stevenson had a great tournament finishing 5th and Oz rep. leftie from Sunshine Coast took 8th place. Faye Bottomley made $$$$ with her good 9th placing followed by local Linda Green. Lexi Nicoll (NSW), Amanda Frost and Bianca Flanagan were in 12th and 13th place with young Larissa Nastasi from NQ in 14th place.
Top Qld. outside cash - $50 to Leanne Nastasi
High game outside cash - $50 to Mel Acworth - 251
Bow Award - presented by Broni Morgan - Leanne Nastasi (for sheer enjoyment and behaviour on the lanes)
Total Payout for the Tournament - $9735
High game of the tournament was 297 bowled by Linda Green. Lynda Churchward had a personal best game of 240 and Ann Kirby - an all spare game.
Highlight of the weekend for me (apart from the bowling, of course) - starting practise on Saturday before first squads, turned on flashing lights, loud music etc. Lexi Nicoll spun around facing control with the most astonished expression and mouthing some rather tasteful remarks on ‘what on earth is THIS ?’
Thanks once again to the bowlers who continue to support this event - 53 starters with some of the less experienced bowlers never having bowled in an all-women’s tournament before. Thanks once again to our wonderful sponsors (see attached sheet AGAIN!!), thanks once again to Caboolture Bowl for hosting the Classic for the 12th year, Andrew Christopher for scoring and thanks once again to the TEAM …… BRING ON THE 13th YEAR.
