This has culminated in our inaugural annual general meeting and the formation of the Victorian Tenpin Bowling Association.

Striking For Gold in Bendigo

A further step on the pathway to tenpin bowling’s goal of securing a place on the Commonwealth Games program was taken on the 18th December 2002.

Under the banner of “Striking for Gold in Bendigo” a comprehensive official bid has been lodged with the Organising Committee for the 2004 Commonwealth Youth Games, to be held in the former gold mining hub of regional Victoria – the city of Greater Bendigo.

Billed as The Centrepiece of Victoria, this beautiful city - just one and a half hours’ drive from Melbourne - has been chosen to host the second Commonwealth Youth Games, from 29 November to 4 December 2004.

“More than twenty sports are vying for the privilege of selection for the CYG program” said Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Federation (CTBF), Lynne Clay today. “However, we have strong support of the bowling industry in Victoria and, in particular, the Centre in Bendigo and this, combined with the resources and experience of Tenpin Bowling Australia and its international affiliates, means we certainly have a good chance.

“In consultation with our colleagues from the WTBA and the CTBF, Tenpin Bowling Australia has prepared a professional and positive response to the criteria circulated by the CYG Organising Committee – no stone has been left unturned in mounting an attractive and compelling case to include tenpin bowling on their program” she added.

The appraisal process is being undertaken by the CYG Organising Committee, which is made up of representatives from the Australian Commonwealth Games Association, the Victorian Department of Sport and Recreation and officials from the host city of Bendigo. An announcement regarding the Sports Program is expected before the end of January, 2003

2003 Asian Schools Roll Off

Due to the recent events in Indonesia the Asian Bowling Federation has this morning advised that the Asian Schools Tenpin Bowling Championship 2003 will be held in Penang, Malaysia.

The roll off at Canberra International Bowl will go ahead as scheduled however Tenpin Bowling Australia will continue to monitor the travel situation through liaison with Department of Foreign Affairs and will keep all interested parties informed via this website.

Tenpin Bowling Australia will be sending one boys team (4) and one girl’s team (4) as per our High Performance Program for 2003. If the situation of the actual event changes, the teams will then alternatively compete in the Arafura Games in Darwin, combining a development opportunity with the Northern Territory Institute of Sport.

CRITERIA
You must be a full-time student at Secondary School, TAFE or University. You will be required to show proof of this attendance at the roll-off.

PHOTO ID AND REGISTRATION FEE
Please forward to the TBA office 4 passport photographs and registration fee of $20 which will cover the cost of all mail-outs and communication prior to the roll-off.

ROLL-OFF/SELECTION
The roll-off for this team will take place on 7-9 February 2003 at Canberra International Bowl. Bowlers will be required to meet their own travel and accommodation requirements as well as the nomination fee of $200.

This nomination fee includes lineage for 24 games. Bowlers will bowl 4 squads of 6 game blocks with points determined based on number of bowlers competing. After each block for example, if 30 boys competed, the bowler finishing 1st would accumulate 30 points and the bowler finishing last would receive 1 point. At the completion of the 24 games, the top 3 point scorers in boys and girls divisions will join the top Junior Allstar players from 2002 Presidents Shield competition to form the 2003 Australian Team. (Allstar bowler must meet all other criteria) Squads will be determined after the closing date for nominations.
