The Nationals Report - Intercentre Cup.

The Spanner

Tenpin's Jamie Lyon
The qualifying for the Inter Centre Cup was run this morning, and as I promised to try and keep the updates coming, here are the 8 qualifiers for the final tomorrow. 15 Teams played in qualifying this year, up from last years 7.

1 – ChiPs (Chermside-Ipswich) 3945

James Corbett was the standout performer of qualifying, bowling an avg of 221.17 for the six games, including a first-up 278. He was well supported by Michael Thompson (Avg 202.17), which gave yours truly an armchair ride into the finals as the No 1 Qualifier.

2. Ashmore 3875

Brian “National (Velvet) Champion” Looby was very solid throughout, finishing with a 219.17 avg for qualifying. Jessie Andrews made an impressive debut and bowled a 203.67 avg, which allowed Paul Love to relax and wait for his turn to shine tomorrow.

3. Time to Spare (Illawarra) 3871

Last year’s top qualifier is at home this year. Steven and Ingrid Johnston bowled to their average, with the efforts of Justine Proksch ensuring safe passage into the next day, they will be hard to beat.

4. Dilligaf (Ashmore) 3868

The father-son team of John and Graeme Lerner teamed with Speedbump Simpson to move into the big games tomorrow. All three bowled over their averages, and will be dangerous tomorrow with their experience in the trenches.

5. Bunbury Bandits 3851 (WA)

Peter Kenyon didn’t take too long to get into the swing of things after performing so well at De Veer last year. Thank God he’s not there this year after avg 195 of his 40 handicap. The only 4 man team to make the finals, with Thanh Tu, John Baker and Shayne Hendriksen all providing great back-up.

6. Belco Boys. (ACT) 3704

Not much is known about these boys from the capital, but Joshua Smith performed well, with Brad Jewell and Brendan Green bowling just above average. Well done guys … the smokies tomorrow….

7. Cannington All Stars 3687

Last years champions didn’t have it all their own way this year, but are still in the mix of 8 to go through. Ann Appleton, Kathy Browning and Terri Coleman all bowled around there average with no real stand-out. Will be ever dangerous tomorrow.

8. Fairlane City 3663.

The story of the qualifying, with Brad Hurst finding the line in the last two games, well supported by Pearl Seet and Wendy Ensell, to qualify by one pin from the 9th placed South Australian Mixed team. That 1 pin ensures that they will compete on equal footing with the other 7 teams in the final tomorrow.

So .. three teams from QLD and WA, with one each from NSW and ACT. Let the Matchplay begin … and good luck to all teams.

This report contains no childish or juvenile comments, except this one. A piss poor effort, if you ask me, and damn boring to read.
