INTERSCHOOL CHALLENGE 2004

Tenpin Bowling Association of Queensland have successfully held the 5th Interschool Challenge. This event is open to all bowlers who are registered school students. There are 2 divisions
1. Secondary Division – Statewide Competition
2. Primary Division – South East Queensland

On 14 & 15 August the State Finals of the Secondary Division took place at AMF Redcliffe Bowl and Aspley Tenpin. There were 10 teams lining up who won their respective Regional Qualifying Round to participate in the Finals.

The competition was close throughout the 2 days with positions not finalised until the 10th and last match on Sunday. Final results were

1. Windaroo Valley SHS 112.5 points
2. Kirwan SHS 95.5 points
3. Craigslea SHS 91.5 points
4. Harristown SHS 90 points
5. Narangba Valley SHS 80 points
6. Keebra Park SHS 74 points
7. Bundaberg SHS 69.5 points
8. Park Ridge SHS 68 points
9. Toolooa SHS 48 points
10. Victoria Point SHS 29 points


The winning school was Windaroo Valley making the finals after a school pull out of the event the Team consisted of Becky Manderson, Ken White, Luke McNaughton, Matt Simpson and Brendon Cairn. This team only received the news 2 weeks before the event that they qualified for the event as a team form Far North Qld could not attend and Windaroo Valley were 2nd reserve and got the chance to compete.

An All Star Team was announced made up of the top 5 averages from the weekend and CONGRATULATIONS to these 5 bowlers.

2. Nik Mroz (Harristown SHS) 195.9
3. Terrie Needham (Kirwan SHS) 192.5
4. Krystal King (Keebra Park SHS) 189.6
5. John Knaap (Craigslea SHS) 189.3

TBAQ conducted a Sportsperson award (voted by the bowlers) for the State Finals and the awards were kindly donated by AMF Brisbane. There were 2 categories Girls winner Hayley Donnelly (Harrisotwn SHS) and Boys winner Ken White (Windaroo Valley SHS).

TBAQ would also like to congratulate all the 50 schools that participated in the competition for 2004 and look forward to a bigger and more exciting event in 2005.
