Go Bowling Ashmore will be abuzz this weekend as young tenpin bowlers and their families from all around Australia travel to the Gold Coast to pit their skills on the lanes in the 2016 Queensland Junior Cup.

The players are targeting trophies and prizes including STORM bowling equipment, international flights courtesy of SCOOT and over $11,000 in cash in a tournament that has grown from small beginnings last year to one of the highlight events on the sport’s calendar of ranked events for bowlers under the age of 18.

Dignitaries attending the Opening ceremony on Saturday include multi-medal winning target-shooter and President of the Queensland division of the Australian Commonwealth Games Association, Alan Smith. With an outstanding career - including Gold medals at the 1982 and 1986 Commonwealth Games in target-shooting - Alan Smith is expected to have some valuable words of advice for the Queensland Junior Cup aspirants on goal-setting and the challenges of competing as an elite athlete.

Tenpin bowling maintains strong links with the Commonwealth Games family since the sport’s inclusion on the programme of the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998, and the Commonwealth Youth Games in Bendigo in 2004.

Also addressing the players, officials and supporters on Saturday will be Cr. Bob La Castra, representing the City of Gold Coast. The Council is one of the tournament’s major supporters and Cr. La Castra will highlight the many attributes that the Coast offers to visitors and locals alike.

Call into Go Bowling Ashmore this weekend - spectators are welcome – or watch the scores which will be posted on www.tenpinresults.com.au throughout the weekend.
