League Points systems to stop Sandbaggers

Is the Force with you?
Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or knows of any points systems for a league that will help reduce sandbaggers.

I know it's hard to stop but is there anyway to make it hard for them???

we introduced a drop rule where the bowler if they drop 10 pins below their average or more they have to use the handicap of ten pins below their average.it can still be flaunted to a certain extent but it makes it tougher.they also have average points so the incentive is to beat your average as half the points for the night are earnt by beating average.

Ok Chucker,
So if they drop 10 pins or more below there season starting ave, they can drop there ave by more than 10 pins?

they can drop their average as much as they like but there is a cap put on their handicap eg.if someone starts on 185 aveand have a handicap of 12 then if they drop below 175 they wouldn't be able to have more than 20 handicap.this is based on 80% of 200 handicap system.hopfully this helps.

Our league at Chadstone runs on a 32 (in reality 44) points per week system. 4 person Team League.

This is made up by:

1 point for beating your corresponding opponents (Bowler 1 vs Bowler 1 etc.) handicap score. To make it fair for everyone the Team lineups must be placed in ascending average order (lowest average through to highest average). Ideally apart from a few mismatches most head to head games are relatively even. 12 Head to Head points available per team per night.

1 point for bowling above (not equalling) your average. 12 Over Average points available per team per night.

2 points per game for Team win. 3 games per night.

2 points for Overall Team win

Thus 32 maximum points per Team in a night comprising of:

12 X 1 Head to Head Points
12 X 1 Over Average Points (Both Teams equal 24 X 1)
3 X 2 Team Game Points
1 X 2 Team Overall Points

In reality it is effectively a 44 point system. Although the points are calculated to 32 for a teams point win/loss ratio on a night.

This makes it a must for all bowlers to try to beat there average every game which is a big disincentive towards sandbagging. A Sandbagger is not going to help the team while their average is dropping.

To encourage Teams to have 4 bowlers a vacancy score is set at 120 scratch with 72 handicap a total of 192 per game. The leagues current Handicapping system is 90% of 200.

Induces some big ladder position swings after only one night and makes it an exciting league to bowl in.
