INNOVATIVE AUSSIE REVOLUTIONISES BOWLING

Aussie superstar, Jason Belmonte, posted a further career success by winning the highly competitive SUPER SIXXXXXX GOTEBORG 2009 tournament in Sweden last weekend. However, the thrilling win, against some of the sport’s top classed bowlers, was eclipsed overnight by the announcement from the Professional Bowling Association naming “Belmo” as PBA ROOKIE OF THE YEAR.

Although playing just nine events, less than half the schedule, on the American Pro tour during the 08/09 season it’s reported that Belmonte won the poll by a landslide. “He led rookies in money earned & points, so he was pretty darn good”, understated Sports Editor of Indiana’s Post Tribune, Steve Gorches.

Belmonte became the first two-handed player in PBA history to win a PBA Tour title when he upset top qualifier Michael Fagan in March to win The Bowling Foundation Long Island Classic in New York. The win capped a spectacular start to the 25 year-old’s tilt at the Pro circuit & fanned a frenzy of media & public interest in his ‘footy-pass’ bowling style, with appearances on ABC’s Good Morning America, NBC’s Today Show & The Fox Network’s Fox & Friends. He has also featured in the Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, ESPN The Magazine, Denver Post, Boston Globe, ESPN.com & other international media, while the sport’s ‘bible’, BOWLERS JOURNAL INTERNATIONAL will headline Belmo with a front cover feature article in its next monthly edition.

ESPN’s E60 program, which combines investigative reporting with in-depth profiles of sports personalities, featured Belmonte’s tenpin technique when it aired in the US last night, with host Jeremy Schaap introducing the segment as follows:-

“In the tradition of great sports innovators like Dick Fosbury, who revolutionized the high jump, & Bill Walsh, inventor of football’s West Coast offense, a 25-year-old Australian named Jason Belmonte is taking the bowling world by storm with a revolutionary technique in which he bowls using both hands. Belmonte is challenging his sport's history & redefining what it means to be a bowler. Belmonte’s two-handed bowling is now spreading to all corners of the globe.”

After further tournaments in Sweden & Denmark, Belmonte will return to Australia in early June to a hero’s welcome from the bowling fraternity & family & friends in his home city of Orange, New South Wales. A hectic schedule of tournament commitments & media appearances will soon see the globe-trotting star packing his bags again to compete in & further popularize the sport in which he excels.

Im sorry but the TBA and AMF have banned anything which could raise the profile of bowling in this country. It is deemed to be common sense which is prohibited.
