Clara Juliana Guerrero of Colombia (photo) earned the first Bowlingdigital.com International Player of the Year Award during the farewell party of the 6th World Games at Matsuyo Kaikan Hotel in Yokote City, Japan. The award, sponsored by Kegel, was presented by bowlingdigital.com's editor Herbert Bickel. In addition to the Oscar-like trophy 19-year-old Guerrero received a round trip ticket to Florida plus a free three-day clinic at Kegel Training Center in Sebring, Florida.

The "Award of Merit for Distinctive Achievement" is intended to be presented annually to one male and one female bowler providing outstanding performance on an international level. Entitled to vote were the national coaches or a member of the presidium of those FIQ member federations which participate in tenpin bowling. In a tightly contested race, 2000 American Zone rankings leader Guerrero collected 29,17% of the votes from 48 countries and was named Bowlingdigital.com International Player of the Year for 2000. Denmark's Kamilla Kjeldsen was the runner-up, with Kelly Kulick of the United States in third place.

The winner in the men's category, Tore Torgersen of Norway, was also supposed to bowl in the 2001 Akita World Games, but had to cancel his participation prior to the competition.

The 48 countries, who participated in the ballot were Argentina, Aruba, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, El Salvador, England, Finland, France, Germany, Guam, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Iceland, Iraq, Ireland, Isle of Man, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, Netherlands Antilles, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Peru, Qatar, Scotland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United States and Wales.
