SA country cup

AdrianS

This is the future!!!
As usual no one is talking mess about it, or has the realisation of a Mt Gambier team minus David Cutting shocked everyone into silence??:p Happy drinking this year everyone:chair::drunk:

well its just like any other year shelto one of us will put a post up from down here in regards to it but we get no chatter from any other centres. Will be different without dave but life goes on we'll still have a strong enough mens team to do the job if we stay off the rum and bowl our best LOL:D Always a good weekend even if its just for the socialising, dont get me wrong yeah we want to win but we'll come up against some very formidable opponents as per usual!!! Just glad we go to adelaide every year now rather than doing the country centres, looking at the vic country cup there were alot of bowlers well down on average, must have been very challenging. Anyone out there from around the country centres jump on and drop a post!!!

You realise how narrow-minded that is? Not only does it infer that you only like bowling on easy patterns so that you score well but it makes country centres sound like they are second rate. I have been in a few centres in Adelaide and they are garbage compared to Berri, a country centre. Sure Berri is new and they are sorting out the oiling patterns they will use but overall it is much better.

Most the country centres are keeping pace with things as they can. Country Cup in Albury was held on wooden lanes. Albury bowl and their staff did a great job with what they have. As for the other country cup venues in Vic, most of them are good, and most the lanes are synthetic now.

This is just another case of someone bagging country centres for no reason at all. It's the whole "stuff the country centres, they dont count" attitude.

Yeah it may sound narrow minded but i was referring to the fact of not having to bowl on wooden lanes which shelto knows what conditions we have put up with for years being an ex mount gambier boy, if you do not know mount gambier is one of the few remaining centres in SA with wooden lanes and we have been putting up with s@#t down here for years, we havent been as lucky to secure new owners till now where they have spent alot of money upgrading there centres ie barossa bowl, whyalla bowl, pirie bowl and of course berri being a new bowl, i too hope that now with new owners we can finally appreciate some modern equipment to bowl on in the near future. i wasnt having a shot at country centres mate i was having a shot at the sh@tty old wood lanes and crap conditions we've had to put up with for years. Its just nice for us lot down here to get out of the centre down here and bowl on some decent lanes. i hope this clears up my "narrow minded" post!

Its really a case by case thing as how you can make centres with wood lanes and older oiling machines play 'normal' I know first hand it's possible. Doing stuff like Plastic Rulers from 7 to 7, multiple passes with the machine and putting dodo scale weights on the VLS to make sure it strips the backends properly can do wonders(till it wrecks the rubber:p). Ah well, when the Mount gets a new machine no one will have to worry about doing any 'witch doctor' surgery anymore.

Oh and the conditions in Adelaide on easter weekend weren't always easy, usually around 200 to make all stars tells me its no wall

So true, funny ya say about screwin the rubber on the vls mate its absolutely shagged, leavin heaps of water on the lane so wyborn is going to hand dry the back ends. He's been playin around with the oiler and were getting some better conditions but still very inconsistent. Already had a look at a new machine but similar to what we have and doesnt want it he would rather try to get in a second hand kegel so will see what happens there. As you said easter conditions of have never been ditches you've still had to work but at least there's consistancy and ya can actually rely on the ball to do something instead of hitting a mountain of SLUDGE:D

Hey Shelto, Yes, David is a great bowler, but one bowler doesn't make a team, and yes we may miss his skill in our team. That said, we have a quite capable group of guys with huge ability and when Tony, Russell & Peter get going they are brilliant to watch, as you well know...

As for GoTheCell's comments, I think it's just a case of misunderstanding what Tonz meant... We love our bowling here in the 'Mount' and with our new centre owner David, I think we'll love it even more! He is making a huge effort to improve not just the conditions of the lanes, but the centre on a whole and congrats to him for it. But going to Adelaide getting onto some lanes where you can throw the ball out and trust your shot, compared to what we have been used to in the past is like a dream!!

Best of luck to all teams competing this year and GO MOUNT GAMBIER!!

You guys aren't hiring a big ass bus i hope? If its just you 7 guys you could do it with 3 cars, unless of course you're taking about 20 spectators with you

Scores attached (provided by Belinda, Bowland Salisbury) for those that want to know...

Whyalla had another successful weekend... Our men (MtG) bowled well all weekend but couldn't take the points in some of the close games which kept us snapping at Whyalla's heels for the day 2 and 3 after holding a 7 point lead at the end of day 1.

Congratulations to all teams that competed and congrats to the winning teams and All Stars Teams!!

Thanks again to Belinda and the team at Bowland Salisbury for a great weekend!!!

I swear there's some Zombies in the womens division!!! Hopefully we(as in where i came from!!) can get 3 teams back up there next year

I can't believe you could say that about the fantastic women of the SA country centres Shelto, you are an animal mate!!! LOL!!!

As for 3 teams, our association is gonna be working on it for the next 6-8 months to make it happen... If we can't manage a full team from here we are quite keen to draft bowlers in to make up numbers!!!
