Novatel Rooty Hill

Hypercell = Hyperhook!
Are straight taking bowlers for a ride with there room rates. Its cheaper to book another hotel 10kms away and hire a car between 4 people.... I wont be staying there this year, I think they are taking advantage of bowlers and the location they are situated...-

Just saying

How so George ? I know WA didn't stay there in 2010 and 2011 but what are their rates this year?

Maybe I travel in different circles, but $140 per night for a room of that quality is fine with me! Maybe I'm turning into a Hotel Snob? Even the $160 for the single night is definitely what I'll be doing when I come down for the odd day here and there!

You can definitely get cheaper then that!

Hey George,
You just picked up $7,500 you can stay at my place near the beach for $300 a night. Its only 80ks from the bowl. I might even throw in a car but pay your own petrol.
Cheers Lovey

Of course! You could pay $79 for a group and stay in the Formule 1 at Campbelltown that is only half an hour down the M7 if you really wanted to.

Well it's about priorities obviously, although I must say I've had teams in the Novotel and in 2010 some wanted the cheaper Waldorf in Blacktown, and the consensus quickly became that the extra for the Novotel was well worth the convenience.

Personally I hate traffic, $160 for a night and NOT having to get up early enough to drive somewhere is totally worth it for me. In any case, for the quality of the hotel I don't think that $160 per night is excessive at all, yes you can find cheaper places if you'd rather save a few dollars a night and take on the task of driving or hiring a car. Priorities :)

Book a room with 2 queen beds for 7 days at the novotel and it's $150 a night... If you share a room with someone else then that is halved... $75 for the convenience of being within walking distance as opposed to $80 plus the added expense of a car/ fuel and travel I'd stay at the novotel.

I heard its $190 a night unless you stay 7 nights and then it goes down to $160.... It's not about the money for me, its the principle of the matter. I'll spend my money somewhere else thank you

Perhaps you'd like to try staying at Castle Hill - 40-45 min drive because we were restricted from incurring tolls. Try gathering a bunch of people together bleary eyed and grumpy at around 7ish, for a 40-45 min drive to the bowl for 8am squads, every day.

I think I'd rather pay the extra and wake up and roll across the carpark to the bowl get my gear out of the ball paddock and go. Paid over $2K to get there - I'd like to be comfortable seeing as I bowl interstate that often.

Well George, you're misinformed. It's $160 a night for a King Room for a single night, or $140 for a king room per night for 7+ nights. The Twin Queen is 170/150. I thought this was in the announcement that went out, I apologise for seeming like it had if in fact it had not.

What principle of the matter? Because one of their tenants has a lot of customers needing to stay nearby overnight they should give us a deal? As a business, I don't see that the Novotel needs to give us anything. They see the opportunity to have the teams staying here and socialising in their RSL club, so they take a few dollars off to encourage it.

If you want to talk about principles, how about appreciating the fact they're giving us anything off their rack rate at all? Remeber they're giving us a discount, not cranking it up! If it doesn't fit in your budget, you're not obliged to stay there. It really is that simple. By the sounds of it they're giving us a 15% discount (based on your $190, assumably that's the stock standard rate), what's your problem?

Why the outrage that a business is giving us a discount that it doesn't have to?

Use some of the money you save on not having to buy bowling gear George and shout yourself a night in the Novatel. :)

Their standard room rate is $172/185 a night depending when you book, so dropping it to $160 a night isn't a huge discount, granted it is a little bit, but when you think of their guaranteed accommodation bookings for pretty much a full 3 weeks, ongoing spendings within the club itself ie food, drinks, pokies, gym etc etc, you would think a better deal would be on offer. I have also heard that they are jacking the room rates up to $190 per night, but I guess we will have to wait and see until it is time to book, but the room rate was $150 last year, so it is understandable some concerns are raised if there is any foundation to it. 160 rooms x $160 a night minimum is $25600 a night, say the bowlers contributed 2/3s of this accommodation, 100-110 rooms, which is probably reasonably close, that is around $17k a night over say 18-20 days give or take the Novatel is receiving. You do the sums, but I am sure they can lower the rate a wee bit more and probably in turn secure fuller occupancy

Both ourselves as a sport and the TBA should slowly be starting to turn this event around to making centres and accommodation facilities like the Novatel at Rooty Hill want us to be there. I don't know if the TBA/AMF receive sponsorship dollars to secure the bowlers accommodation but it would certainly help the tournament and bowlers lower their costs.

You only need to bowl in some of the megabuck tournaments in Vegas to know how much they value someone staying there, you are lucky to pay 30-40 a night accommodation at worst, because the casinos know you will be spending other money there and they are all competing for your business. Perhaps the Novatel and bowl is too isolated for them to care to give a better rate. I just think it can be better and hopefully it will become so. I think a lovely Gold Coast sea breeze could be in order for 2013 ;)

Well put Mick, exactly what I was getting at but i just didn't have the time yesterday to type it out... nice work

The room rates are quite reasonable for the quality of the room.

We travel around quite a bit and the average nights accommodation is around the $150 mark and the quality of the room is not as good as the Novatel.

The added convience of being able to just walk 100 metres and have a quick nap is appealing.

Hopefully the quality of the food improves as this is a real let down.

I am not sure whether three years at the one location is the longest period you would want to have there. The Youth Nationals were at Werribee for seven straight years and while it was a well ran tournament it lost it's appeal.

If there is a centre that can offer similiar facilities to the Novatel then it should be given an opportunity to host the Nationals on a rotation system.
