Dion Top Qualifier in Sydney

In what was described as a 'very difficult' FIQ International pattern, SA's Dion Alexander has top qualified for Day 2's competition.

From a qualifying field which included Stephen Cowland, David Porto, Chris Castle, Hamish Rogers and Andrew Tonkin, Dion shone with consistent scores of 200+ and was one of only 3 male bowlers over the card for the day.

Marc Triulcio shot a 532 final block, and a tournament high game of 288 in Game 10, to save his tournament hopes to qualify in 11th position. Glen Loader and Matt Simpson did not cut.

SA's girls fared well in the tough conditions, Clair Johnston, Louise Ingoe and Kerry-Ann Klop all cutting and are back for Day 2.

Clair shooting the high game for the Ladies with a 279 in Game 9.

Good on ya guys, and good luck for Day 2.

Dion, Kerry-Ann, Louise and Clair are all through to Stage 3 of Day 2.

Solid performances by all have helped them qualify for the final stage before stepladder finals.

Dion is the only bowler out of the whole field to stay over the card.

Good luck for the rest of the tournament guys.

Congrats to Dion and Louise for coming 3rd and 2nd respectively.

In a stepladder final which all 4 finalists bowled off against each other, with the lowest score dropping out, Dion could only manage 2 games, knocked out in 3rd place. Louise went all the way to the final game, and was unluckily beaten by 7 sticks, 209-202.

Kerry-Ann finished 5th and Clair finished 8th. Final results can be found at http://www.tenpin.org.au/2007_Ranked_Events/Challenge_sydney_cup/results.htm

Well done on your placings guys.
