AUSTRALIAN BLIND TENPIN TEAM STRIKE MEDALS IN WORLDS

Members of the Australian Blind Tenpin Bowling team each won medals in the inaugural International Blind Sports Federation world championships in Helsinki Finland.

The Australian team won 1 gold 5 silver and 5 bronze to place third overall behind host Finland and USA.

Larry Kent (SA) won gold in the singles before teaming with Des Wallington (WA) to win silver in both the scratch and handicap doubles. This pair then added Ron Anderson (WA) and won silver in the scratch and bronze in the handicap triples.

Pearl Sumner (WA) won silver (Scratch)and Donna Holland bronze(Handicap) in the ladies B2 singles whilst Hazel Hockley (Vic) won bronze in both the women’s B3 events.

In the fours scratch teams events Wallington, Hockley, Ian Lawrence (WA) and Kent won bronze with the Australian B team Anderson, Murray Buck (WA),Sandra Knight (Vic) and Frank Bartoli (vic) claiming the silver in the handicap event.

Competition rules required at least one totally blind and one female competitor and the Australian selectors provided a good mix to achieve these excellent results.

The support staff were Shane Czerkasow manager/Coach, Phyll Lightbody and Harold Carr all from WA.
