The last event of the TotalBowling Touring Circuit of 2008 is one of the highest scoring tournaments that I have attended, ever.

The first day saw Squad A start nice and early at 8:30am NSW Time (7:30 for all those QLD's) with Ray Trenham from Tweed taking an early lead with a 238 average after 6 games and hot on his tail was Tony Hamilton and Steve Kable averaging 235 and 234 respectively.

It was then Squad B's turn to have a go on the high scoring lanes and Squad B's bowlers were ready to show they were willing to match the scoring pace. After 6 games saw the 35 year old man in a 62 year old's body, Jagga Morgan, average 237 followed by Carl and Faye Bottomley averaging 233 and 231 respectively. In those set of 6 games Carl Bottomley and Christian Kereszteny both bowled a 290.

The next set of 6 games was Squad A's turn again, and this set saw another 290 game which was bowled by Luke Hickmont. On the same pair of lanes in the same game, Jason Scott bowl a 288. Tony Hamilton was able to improve on his average and finish 2nd on average order with a 236 average at the completion of Squad A sitting behind Jagga.

Nobody must not have gone out Saturday night because everyone was ready to bowl at check-in time for the 2nd part of Squad B, except for Brian Looby who turned up 10 minutes later. No 290 games this time but Carl shot a massive +318 and Brian Pilkington shoot +300 for 6 games, that saw Carl and Brian take 1st and 2nd Place for the end of qualifying.

At the end of qualifying there was a draw for 30th spot between Andrew Drew and Chris Quaill which meant there had to be a one game roll off to decide who went through to the doubles format. The winner wasn't decided until the very last ball where Chris needed a strike in the bonus ball to win by 1, luckily he bowled a strike because Bob Hardie was going to enforce the Rock Paper Scissors rule to break them up.

To make the Top 15 you had to have averaged 222 and to make the Top 30 you had to have averaged 209. In the Top 30 there was 4 females; Faye, Kate, Alicia and Naomi.

Qualifying Scores can be found HERE

The top 30 bowlers had to pair up for the doubles, the bowlers from 16th to 30th had to pull the placing of their partner out. The doubles format was Baker's format where one bowler bowled on the odd lane and other half of the team bowled on the even lane, a format that most people were familiar to from last year.

As usual, Jim Murray was dishing out his trash talk to everyone but I'm not sure if a single person understood what he was saying :p, even dishing it out to me... his own doubles partner. Even Bob Hardie got in on the act informing Pilko he had to do the washing and ironing when he got home if he was beaten by Kate (which he was)

Winning the doubles format and leading most of the way was George and Alicia bowling a massive 246.1 scratch average. In second place and continuing his fine form was Tony Hamilton and Chris Quaill averaging 236.3. To finish of the Top 3 was the seniors team Jagga and Brian Looby averaging a 226.9.

Awarded at the end of the weekend was the High Game Awards per pair during qualifying. There was vouchers for KFC Coolangatta, Outback Jacks Coolangatta, Rainbow Bay Resort, Tugun TAB and some petrol vouchers.

The overall points winners for the TotalBowling Touring Circuit was Carl Bottomley on 496 points, Brian Pilkington on 469 and coming 3rd on 463 points was Brendan Meads. For the females was Alicia Meads on 264 points, Kate Wilton on 261 points and coming 3rd on 213 points was Leesa Bartlem, congratulations to all.

A thank you goes to the counter staff and mechanics at Coolangatta Tweed Tenpin for making sure nothing went wrong over the weekend. The kitchen and machines ran perfectly, not a single lane break down which meant the tournament ran on time and even finished early! Also a massive thank you goes to Andrew Christopher for doing the live scoring for all of the tournaments, I'm sure all the people watching the scores at home appreciate it as well.

Keep watching the Touring Circuit forum for more details about the 2009 Circuit. Once again, thank you to all the bowlers that bowled in the touring circuit this year and I'm sure the Touring Circuit will be kept alive in 2009.

Have updated the final points and averages after the weekend.
