The earpieces are for communication with the team car and are allowed in the Tour De France. He may have had people talking to him (his bosses) via the earpiece while the interviews were on.

New addition to the rule book

Personally I have used pen and paper recoding my scores/ pin leaves etc for over 20 years, and I can do it alot faster than someone using an iphone. However I would ask you this. Can you remeber all 36 frames including the pin leaves on non strike shots and what you failed to knock over after...

Carol G in USBC Hall of Fame

Caught the interview on ESPN not too long ago. Great to see Carol rewarded by being installed among the greats of Bowling. A great ambassador for not only bowling but also Australia.

    Rolemodel/Favorite Bowler of All Time?

When I started bowling back in the early 80's news from the states was rare (usually from Pin Action or if you were lucky Bowlers Journal) and tapes of PBA competitors were not readily available so my first bowling idols came from within my local bowl and from the Australian tournament scene...

    Rolemodel/Favorite Bowler of All Time?

Back while he was competing there was an issue with the weight of one of Billy's balls after a 300 game during an ATBA tournament. I don't think Billy agreed with the decision so he stopped bowling here in Oz. Sorry my memory of the time is a bit vague. Billy the last time I bowled in events...

Ball weight and brand - Would you swap?

John Hammer for me. Been using them since the first Faball ball was introduced into this country way back when. I currently use 15lb balls having dropped from using 16lb balls when all my gear was stolen about 8 years ago now. Gee time flies.

TOC is on now - Go Belmo!

Yes has worst matchplay record after the first seven games of the first session (1-6-0). Looks like its Belmo hunting season. Sits 236 pins out of top four in 12th place. Let's hope he can pull something out in the last game and then get set for a big last 16 games. Needs to get some breaks...

If ball numbers were reduced what would you pack?

John I only take three with me whenever I bowl. Currently: Black Widow Black Widow Sting Red Pearl Hammer However I do have some more older balls that I can grab if I want to but I don't take them with me to league and rearely bring them out for tournaments.

If ball numbers were reduced what would you pack?

John Thanks for starting this thread as it will promote further debate on whether this could be a viable solution to the problem plagueing our sport. I placed the option of the spare ball being either a Plastic or Urethane surfaced ball on the basis that I personally use a Red Pearl Hammer for...

    A question for you all

I would expand upon your suggestions as follows: 1. All bowlers are allowed to use a maximum of two balls on a THS league. One of the balls must have a plastic or urethane surface. Note this restriction also applies to the practice play component of the league. 2. In the event of one of the two...

    A question for you all

That comment usually refers to centres that have deliberately created a very easy walled shot: Keon Park and Boronia in Melbourne are two. Without knowing the actual setup at Taree I can't give an answer as to why there hasn't been a 300 thrown there yet.

    A question for you all

Willey You are right about the catch 22, but less oil means that the lanes usable lifespan is drastically reduced. It is not only the scoring that needs to be brought back to earth but there is also the need to prolong the usable life of the lanes. Synthetic lanes wear away and need to be...

    A question for you all

Thanks to all who have taken the time to put there thoughts forward. Brenton: I think the adressing of those issues at the back you mentioned will be of great benefit. However with the damage these balls impart on the lane surface, ultimately drastically reducing the usable life of the lanes...

    A question for you all

Having recently re-read the famous "High Tech Balls" and "Billy Hardwick" threads originally on the PBA forum I was wondering this: Given that it will be hard for the ABC to ban reactive technology balls altogether. If they were unable to impose a reasonable surface friction limit and...

    Another 900 bowled

The simple solution is to not sanction any honour scores bowled on house conditions. This will reinforce to the majority of those bowlers out there who naively believe they are par bowlers that they need to challenge themselves. That means in order to achieve recognition in the sport they need...

My thoughts go out to my fellow Aussies of the QLD persuasion in this incredibly testing time for you all. With the East Coast planned for Toowoomba later this year I was wondering if Sunset Lanes escaped the flooding. I know that it is on the outskirts of Toowoomba so I am hoping they...

The cost of bowling for your state?

Victoria has had this system in place for the last couple of years. To bowl for the state team which in turn makes you eligible to be selected for the National team you must be a member of the State Training Squad. I have found the program useful in some areas and believe it is a worthwhile...

just 41 entries...in the Australian Cup

There are a few things to ask: Did the move from Canberra hurt the event. I would say the answer to that is yes. The other things is it may be a time for a complete change in direction to first reestablish large numbers at events. For instance if this was a Seniors event at least 90...

    AMF centres enforcing TBA membership!

In Melbourne the former competing associations of the CTBAM and MTBA have merged to form the United Tenpin Bowling association (UTBA). I believe a vote will be put to the associations members within a couple of weeks to decide if they accept the terms put to them in talks with the TBA. If UTBA...
