    How Important is Accuracy?

Michael, as someone who did work on lanes in the 60's I can tell you, that Lacquer did track-up in about a month after Re-Coating, it was necessary to Coat every 3 Months. It did not Groove, this was associated with Shellac. The end result of the Tracked up area was that it did not hold oil for...

    How Important is Accuracy?

Jim, Big Daz has your answers, todays game, because of the high volumes of Oil in the middle of the Lanes, requires you to bowl a Straight Ball, at All Spares, for consistancy. Therefore if you can hit 80% accuracy, with a Straight Ball, than you will give Walter Ray a run for his Money...

TOC is on now - Go Belmo!

Jim, the WAHSAM's are not necessary, they don't do much, most pins fly off the Kickbacks rarely out of the Gutters. Centres in America have been for many many years, trying things like concrete under thier Flat Gutters or Concrete behind the Double Kickbacks ( which will get a better result...

    A question for you all

Troysa and Terry, the lanes do not wear-out in the Backends it is always the Heads that wear first, it's the sliding motion that will create the most wear. Even with Urethane or Laquer Coatings you could get away without Re-Coating the Backend in the past. willey

    A question for you all

Terry, your talking about a "Catch 22" scenario, the More Oil you put on a Lane the Rougher the Surface of the Ball has to be, which Tears up the Surface of the Lane. It's obvious that Less Oil is the only solution, than we have Polished Balls or even Plastic, what a thought. willey

    Another 900 bowled

Roysa, don't get upset about the Negative people on this site, they grew up in Bowling, in a hard to score period, with Lacquer lanes, it was actually easier to Bowl in the 40's and 50's than the 60's and 70's, because of the surface they Bowled on. All the records that were set in the 40's and...

    A question for you all

Now let's see, I will start with the Pins; Make them heavier? in my 36 years of working in the Centre's, Pins increased in weight from 2 pound 10ounces to 3 pound 8, so that hasn't decreased the scoring, if you keep increasing the weight this will hurt Juniors Ladies and Seniors. Also most Top...

The day the game changed for ever

John, you didn't mention the synthetics the 100 metre runners are USING, their is only 1 runner in the last 10-15 years who has held the World Record who hasn't been caught using performance enhansing Drugs and that is the Current Champion, maybe they won't catch him. willey

The day the game changed for ever

CT, I hate to disappoint you but they have been limiting Friction and Core Dynamics. The Friction was not allowed to be more than the old Blue Hammer Urethane, which it isn't, unfortunately Reactives were able to bypass that Friction with a bigger Footprint, thus more Bite. willey

The day the game changed for ever

John, the Pins, contrary to popular belief, havn't changed in 50 years, the are subject to tests for scorability in the same way they were 50 years ago. If they score too high they do not pass, if they score too low they do not pass. The biggest change is Angle of Entry, which the Reactives...

    AMF centres enforcing TBA membership!

Glenn it has Never been compulsory to join and it Never should, you have to go out there and Sell. How would you like compulsory Unionism in the Workplace? This is Socialism. The first 300 shot at the old Fairfield Bowl was bowled in an unsanctioned League about 1964, it wasn't till 1990...

    AMF centres enforcing TBA membership!

Those wishing to Force things on Bowlers Should find out the Story on Mackay Bowl, The owner of the Centre wanted to Force all League Bowlers to pay even if they could not Bowl, the Bowlers went on Strike for 6 weeks and when it was resolved, the Centre lost 500 Junior Bowlers and hundreds of...

    AMF centres enforcing TBA membership!

Wal is right 100%, the League Bowlers have to be Sold, not Forced. Information, Information, Information. When I started Bowling in the 60's there was a leaflet on the Counter extolling the virtues of joining the association. In the last couple of years I worked in Bowling Centre's, I couldn't...
