Tournament Formats

Our Management team would like input from the Tournament bowlers in regard to preferred formats. Since the inception of the Brunswick Cup some 6 years ago, we have applied much the same format year on year. However, having discussed formats generally with George and Frawls we believe we need to freshen up the Cup and look to a format change for the current year. We are absolutely open to suggestions and would welcome your opinion.

Just to remind me and others what is the format for the Brunswick Cup?

Two words:

Stepladder final

I used to love the stepladder finals, its such a crowd puller and it brings a little bit more excitement to the end of the tournys!!

I honestly don't know why they are extinct. . . can somebody shed some light on that for me??

ok im not sure of the current format but i thought i would give it ago...

2 day tournament

Round 1
4 squads - 8 games each squad
Bowlers must bowl 2 squads

Round 2
top 30 bowlers (3 to a pair)
8 games - 4 blocks
bonus pins for high total block scores in each block
- 1st 50pins - 2nd 40pins - 3rd 30pins - 4th 20pins - 5th 10pins

Round 3
top 10 bowlers
9 games head to head
Win = 20pins - Draw = 10pins

well there you go, any other ideas :)

Brunswick format :
Round 1 - 10 games (cut to top 48)
Round 2 - Shootout 6 games (cut to 16) AND 16 plate;
Round 3 - 15 games matchplay head to head
Positions based on pinfall carried at the end of the matchplay

Something similar to the PBA would be interesting.

1. 10 games, cut to top 32
2. 32 Bowler bracket bowling best of 3 until winner decided.

Minor placings decided on total pinfall.

We ran something similar to that for the Brisbane Cup last year .. however we ran it with a much smalle field, but the cut could be adjusted.

RESULTS OF 2003 BRISBANE CUP

We had a payout after qualifying and gave 1st and 2nd a bye thru to Round 2. Then we paid money for winning each round, where round 1 winners got an extra $25, round 2 $75, round 3 $150 and the final $300. This was on a $95 entry fee so paying more entry fee and bigger prize fund you cuold have a final where the bowlers are rolling off for $1000 or more ! Talk about pressure. Maybe TV would be interested in that sort of thing ?
