Jason Belmonte of Australia rolled 1316 to win the first gold medal of the 8th World Youth Championships at Central Lanes in Agana, Guam. Competing in the boy's singles, the first event of the competition, Belmonte bowled his score in the first squad of the day. 27 countries are taking part in the competition for youth that have not reached their 23rd birthday on January 1, 2004. David O'Sullivan of the United States of America earned the silver medal with a 1247 score which included the high game of the event, 276. Paul Stott of Ireland won the bronze with 1246.
