I bowl a double league that is 85% of 230. If you get your average up over 230, in this league, you will then go into negative handicap. A trios league I bowl in is 80% of 210. The other league I bowl in is scratch.

You will get into KL fine with bowling balls as sporting goods. Leaving KL airport is where they don't count bowling balls as sporting equipment and want you to pay some ringits. I asked them when I left there last year. I bought 40kg of check in luggage each way last time.

I'm going to reserve full judgement until I've seen the show with this scoring system. But after reading Jeff Richgel's article, I tend to agree with his closing sentiment, that whilst bowling may have many faults, the scoring system isn't one of them.
